Anyone out on the web that has any knowledge of the John Deere CS71 chain saw? The saw worked flawlessly until now. I cleaned out the carburetor and put in the repair kit and it still will not idle correctly. It may be a problem with the balancing of the "High","Low" & "Idle" screws. I tried lightly turning in the screws and then backing off the "H" by 2.25 turns; "L" by 1.25 turns, but it does not cut it. Thanks for any participants willing to handle this topics!

Air leak or plugged fuel or air filter? Cracked fuel line?
If you can go back to the original carb settings, do that and look for what's changed on the saw.

Maybe your carb rebuild wasn't done correctly?

Check your plug?

Check your muffler, especially if it has an anti-spark screen, for carbon plugging (back pressure = bad running).

Make sure carb to cylinder connection is air tight.

2.25 turns out seems way too much for the H. Without a manual, "most" saws will start with the H and L screws turned out 1 turn. You adjust the idle speed as fast as it will go, without causing the properly tensioned chain to turn. You adjust the L until you get smooth acceleration (readjust idle speed if needed). You adjust the H in (Leaner)at WOT until it starts to race, then you open it up (richer) until it just starts to "4-cycle", warble, or whatever. When under load (cutting) the saw should smooth right out. Saws don't like WOT without load.....be careful.
