John Deere 15/40 CI4+

I can still get this CI4+ oil locally. Never used it. Anybody use it? I have been using the Premium Blue CJ but might take a look at this CI4+ oil. Just doing my homework!

I would use it- JD is top quality stuff. It is probably a well known brand with a few extra additives- I know that they blend their oils for high tbn.
That's what we used when I was in Afghanistan in Maintenance Platoon...I wanted to grab a couple of cases to stuff into my barrack box when I left, but I had no room left!
They also show on their site how clean an engine is when they use the +50 (JD 15W40 CI4+). I certainly wouldn't worry about using it.

Actually...

FWIW, It's probably minus additives. I know Schaeffer used to make knock-off brands for tractor companies and the tractor companies kept removing additives from the oil until Schaeffer Mfg. said that they didn't want to lower their quality standards and stopped the re-branding of their oil.

John Deere was one of the brands. It's now made by Universal...

Yeah, I beleive that (in Canada) its made by Esso and has a higher TBN than the platform (XD3 Esso), so I don't imagine it to be a lesser product in the states...could be wrong, but I can't see JD doing that.
Kinda like CAT uses Mobil oils in their CAT brand oil.

I got it from my Schaeffer District Rep. Contact SalesRep. He could verify or discount what my District Rep told me...

If you can get the JD oil on the discount it would be a great deal. I've seen lots of used oil analysis on field equipment in the mountains that idles all the time in the winter and gets worked hard removing snow...they look pretty darn good. It's a solid oil, but if you had to pay retail there are other products that are just as good for a slightly lesser price IMHO.

According to the JD MSDS http://eservice.msds.com/servlet/SSMain it's made by ESSO Canada.

FWIW - J-D lubes are pretty well known for exceptional quality.

Or you could use the CASE/CASE IH no. 1 engine oil in 15w40. They were half of the design team on the 5.9 ltr.
