I live in northern IN so winters get below 0 and summers can be into the 90s. 2019 6.7 powerstroke that’s been deleted. It gets 5-7k miles a year put on it. Several drives are fairly short. Would I be better off running HPL Cold Climate and changing it annually? And if so, would I be better off to change it in the spring, or late fall? I’ve also considered using Valvoline Premium Blue Extreme and changing it twice a year for about the same cost. I’m assuming the HPL changed annually will offer better protection (particularly in the winter months since I’m assuming it flows better in cold temps). Thanks!

I have seen HPL Cold Climate 15w40 and several other popular brand name 15w-40s and 5w-40s in a lab freezer at -40F. The HPL Cold Climate oil has no group 3 base oil and does not even cloud at -40F. The HPL would pour slowly out of the beaker, but every other diesel oil was cloudy and you could hold the beaker upside down and the flow as glacial, like it would barely move held upside down for a minute. For cold pumpability in a 15w40, you can't beat HPL Cold Climate 15w40.
