Woops, my mistake! Thanks for clarifying.@sdowney717
No, I've never used or found VPB Restore gen2.
VPB Restore Gen1 is available for $80/gal at Cummins dealers only. I asked my local Cummins dealer about VPBR gen2 and they have never heard of it?

This Motor Oil Geek video's topic answers most all of the points brought up using Valvoline Premium Blue Restore vs Valvoline Restore and Protect. He's at the Valvoline lab where testing is done and results analyzed. Starting at 14:30, the Valvoline guy talks specifically about why the rate of carbon reduction is not too fast. Spoiler: They don't want to overwhelm the filter causing it to go into bypass. Extremely helpful video. Had I not already stocked up on HPL Premium Plus PCMO, I'd be using this oil. I'm going to start using this in my daughter's CR-V with almost 200k miles.
I have 2 Gallons of the Valvoline Premium Blue Restore 10w30, it is the Gen1 stuff. Next spring I will give this oil a shot and see what happens. I might even use this stuff in my old Push mower. After that I will be going onto Valvoline Restore and Protect 5W-30, I actually have 4 5-quart jugs of Valvoline Restore and Protect 5W-30 for my parent's cars. My Dad picked up a used car with 40K, and he told me that the guys on his so-called Forum were talking about Royal Purple. LOLThis video is what broke the dam of skepticism, but even to this day you'd be surprised how many people lack critical thinking skills when it comes to this oil and in general. I just was on another forum and watched an individual literally just make things up about it. Kind of scary there are that many people out there like that. Plus the video does as good of a job as you could hope for without giving away the recipe.
As the video explained, this oil is nothing like Premium Blue Restore, which uses substantial solvency as a one time flush oil.
Maybe us HEUI guys could just throw a single gallon in with a couple of oil changes in a row?I realize this is aimed at Cummins, but it would be cool if they made it in 5W40 or 15W40 for us HEUI Powerstroke people.
I wonder if it is using the same tech they're using in Restore and Protect.
According to Lake Speed jr when he visited the Valvoline lab they developed the Restore and protect it is the same "technolgy" just not as aggressive.. I think with the blue restore, you put that in and run for a bit, miles or hours, and then drain.. it can clog a oil filter quick depending on the level of build up in engine. the regular RnP can clog oil filter as well just not as fast..
On badly sludged up engines it recommended to replace oil filter at like 3-500 miles then at 2000 miles and to drain oil at 3500 miles on first time using,, and then and do again.. on normal engines they say it takes 4 normal oil changes to get them totally cleaned out.
Did AI tell you this too?Valvoline Premium Blue Restore ...
they came up with the technology for diesel engines prior to restore and protect for gas engines.. the difference in the one for gas engine is less aggressive and maybe some other chemical changes for gas vs diesel.. ..
google "valvoline premium blue restore how to use in diesel engine" and read the AI info below the videos.. its a much stronger product and recommend to keep tabs on oil pressure and it can clog up filters reducing oil pressure.. and only used one time every so many miles..
THe restore and protect version for gas engine is designed to be used over a 4 oil change schedule.. same technology just lower amount of ester in oil to help prevent clogging filters causing possible damage to engines.
the are not going to reinvent the wheel.. just improve on it.. either way its a great product for cars with 100 k miles or more on them.

I had a 98 SVT contour years ago and really enjoyed driving that vehicle until engine blew at 114 thousand miles… really loved the contour.I don't need such an oil. I tried the gas engine version and it worked in an oil using Ford Contour v6 extremely well.
It stopped using oil. So far anyway.
