Job at Enterprise?

Get ready to oversell things people don't need. I am floored when a get offered an upgrade car for only $20/day and refuse politely. I then find out that is the only car they have anyway so you get it for your booked rate.

Also tell people about rocks in windshields or whatever to sell insurance they likely do not need.

Absolutely!

My best example was when I rented the smallest, cheapest car available for a quick round trip to Cleveland. I'd made my reservation via the 800 phone number, but when I went to pick up the car the guy tried VERY hard to get me to upgrade to a Cadillac Deville; he offered all sorts of discounts and incentives to get me to do it. I declined them all. Then he gave me the keys and sent me out to get my car - you guessed it, a Cadillac Deville. They were all out of the small cars I'd reserved. Man was that thing comfy and FAST!

Relative to what? The pay stinks compared to most other entry level positions at large companies.


$10 an hour, to rent cars, and sell people extra insurance, and drive them around, and wash the cars, and search for leads on accounts. I don't mind the long hours, it's money, and it looks great on a resume

That's the right attitude, work hard and do a good job and good things can happen. You'll probably meet all sorts of people in the car business and if you're upbeat and sharp you never know who's hiring.

I'd have taken full advantage of the damage waiver. What they did is pure illegal bait and switch IMO.

Give it a try and see how you like it. It's not the end of the world. If you hate it, you'll look and eventually find something else.
 
It doesn't matter how hard you try and how smart you are, eventually what will keep you back is your lack of formal education.

All you need to learn are the three letters 'C' 'D' 'W' :-) Make sure you push that hard, very hard and you will be the star of the Enterprise! Also always go over the car with a fine tooth-comb when it comes back but just barely glance at it when it is going out.

Guessing you work for them eh? Yeah Damage Waiver. I'm actually looking forward to the chaeuffer aspect of the job. I like cars, I like working with people, and I have experience selling "protection plans". I don't mind working long hours, I need the money. I'm actually really looking forward to it, oddly.

My understanding is that they have to try to sell you on the more expensive one, even if that's all they have.
 
Working at anything is better than not working.

The longer you are not working, the worse it looks on a resume.

A few years at this place will get you some mgtm. training, put some $$$ in your pocket, and get you car on it's way to being paid off.

I generally agree with Pop Rivet and others that a lack of formal education will come back to haunt you...but at the current cost of it, that 'haunting' is becoming less of a threat - yeah, you can have a $30/hour job, but you'll have it with $50k in debt stalking you every step of the way.

Might well be worth it, but the constant debt presence is a stress all of it's own - $10-$15/ and hour, your stuff paid for, but a slightly lower standard of living...is becoming a better pay-off by the day!

My understanding is that you need to be at least a manager before you get car privileges. That's years away.

That's another aspect I liked, was I get to drive all sorts of new cars. And no, no girlfried. Probably a good thing, as apparently I won't have time for one.

Hello there Nick R, and allow me to say that I am a NATIONAL/ALAMO/ENTERPRISE HOLDINGS employee myself. I am a mechanic at the Pittsburgh location, and honestly I love my work. Been there for almost 4 yrs now. Getting a healthy raise and better benefits than I had also. Work for the 109 car sales department also and its fun. We(our location is ) are non union and I am so glad as I dont get scewed paying 49$ each first pay for nothing.
