Ok, I ended up getting a "Premium" sedan. It says Nissan Maxima or similar. Hopefully they will give me a nice upgrade.

How does that work?

It seemed pretty simple, William just called member services, explained it was the kids first trip to Florida and Disney World, and if they could help to make sure it was a convertible mustang. I'm not sure if it was a perk of the platinum card, or simply something they extend to all of their card holders.

Nissan Versa with chrome emblems and MP3 CD player. Pulls slightly left, otherwise no issues.

I had one of those as loaners too... from the BMW dealership. Freakin' $90,000 SUV, M spec with a turbocharged V8 engine. Riding in that thing was like cruising in heaven or something.

Most amex don't have that. Platinum does though as does any visa signature card.

I am confused on your comment, but I will add I have rented a Versa before and the steering wheel was off center.

Last I checked a Maxima was not a luxury sport sedan. Nice try Enterprise.

Luxury Sedans are usually from the following brands:
-Cadillac
-Acura
-Audi
-BMW
-Mercedes-Benz
-Infiniti
-Lexus
-Buick
-Lincoln

Your right, I ended up getting a "premium" sedan. Still arguable that its not premium either.

The only time to rent something other than a full size (which is a Camry, they go by EPA volume, not a reasonable idea of what full size would be to the average driver) is if you need a big SUV or larger vehicle for the seats/cargo.

Don't rent a luxury unless you know what they consider to be a luxury. Hertz will tell you exactly: Mercedes E-class, for example.

Negotiate an upgrade at the counter. I've rented Jaguars, Lexus, Mercedes, and other luxury cars for as little as $20/day over what I paid for the full size.

If you're part of their loyalty program, you'll often get a modest upgrade if it's available. E.g., rent a full size, get a new Impala, or Taurus (which are considered premium by Hertz). So, rent the full size, drive off in an SUV, or premium sedan.

I rent a car only 12 or 15 times a year now. Used to be more like 40 times a year.

Most recently, at Bradley airport (Hartford, CT) - where I rented a full size (Camry) and drove off in an Infiniti QX-60. Very nice car, by the way. I didn't rent it, or even negotiate it. They were just out of regular cars and had to choose who was getting a nicer car, so they upgraded a Gold club member.

To rent that car would cost about five times as much as the full size. So, rent the full size and be grateful when you get upgraded.

Or pay a LOT more and, in some cases, be dissatisfied if their idea of "luxury" doesn't meet yours.

Last 2 "luxury" rentals I saw from Enterprise were a 300 and an Avalon XLE.

Yeah, hardly true luxury. If they try giving me a Fusion or other full size I'll argue with them and tell them to give me a "premium car" or drop my rate. A Fusion is full size, and I should be charged for the full size rate. I got premium to hopefully they will deliver.
