I'll never go to Jiffyscrew again. They put the wrong filter (fl500 type generic instead of the correct fl820) on my daughters 07 Fusion. They Overtightened the drain plug so bad I gad to use vise grips to get it off rounding it to a nub then buy a new plug. Hard telling what brand or weight they put in. Never again! Be warned

Jiffy Lube is a rip off. I was desperate and needed a job and worked there for about 2 months. I was blown away by the lack of knowledge these people have. At the store I worked at the basic oil change was $36 using pennziol bulk oil and a very very cheap looking made in mexico filter. performax was the brand.
They are constantly pushing for upcharges weather they were needed or not.
If they dont have the product they need to complete the service they either use a something else or dont replace that part at all.
They took care of some diesel fleet ambulances for a company called Doctor's. At one time they were out of 15w40 for at least 1 month. During that time they would just fill with 5w30! They filled over 10 of their engines with 5w30.
If you came in and had one of their filters already on your car they would wipe it off rather then replace it.
I saw a lube tech drain a transmission, thinking he was draining oil.lol
Another thing is they are always pushing ATF flushing allong with lots of other [censored] work that is not needed. They do not stock any ATF fluid other then a "multi ATF" that doent not meet the required specs for any transmission.
I worked there for about 2 months and would never let anyone I know bring their cars there.
I saw 2 engines destroyed in my 2 month stint there.

Are you required to take the basic Jiffy Lube service, or can you ask for Pennzoil Platinum?

Most filters I pull off of the european cars are not the right size, on some theyre only half as large as they should be. And if they have a cartridge filter, theres a very small chance they have it. Who knows how man OEM filters Ive pulled out when the cars were 20 or 40k past lease/dealer coverage. When I worked at a Mercedes dealer in north jersy, a quickie lube filter broke apart and blew an ml320 motor. No warranty there.
My feeling is IF I HAD TO HAVE SOMEONE ELSE CHANGE MY OIL I'd rather pay more and get better and honest service ...versus the cheap rip off game at most quick lube places today. I say pay your trusted indy mechanic a few extra dollars and get them to do it correctly. Your mechanic has an interest in doing it right so you keep coming back to him.
My local JL uses "76" brand oil (Conoco Philips) so it isn't bad oil at all. synthetic is Mobil 1 out of the bottles.
I'd change my oil while naked in -50F temps before I went to Jiffy Lube.
I'd be nervous about driving a vehicle around that I know was serviced at Jiffy
Lube. I hope you have a cell phone and a good towing service on speed dial.

I'd go to Firestone; they use Kendall GT-1 as their oil, good stuff.
Goodyear Gemini centers also use Kendall. So you might try them out if they're common in your area.

I'm responsible for a GSA Fleet vehicle (Ford). I recently took it to the local Firestone for a flat repair. During the time I waited, young guys and gals were coming in for a $50 oil change and getting upsold really hard. It's amazing how many people "badly needed" a brake fluid flush that day. That $50 oil change often changed to a $260 bill. I'll never go back there again.
The local Jiffy Lube also uses bulk Pennzoil, brand X filter and charges $45. They also provide a "free inspection" and fluid top off. Only slightly better than untrained monkeys. It took them 30 minutes to change the oil and 2 hours to figure out to charge the government charge card. The manager refused to help because he was on the phone and then went to lunch. Not going back there either.
The local Ford dealership charges $30 for an oil change with Motorcraft syn blend, OEM filter, and fluid top off. They even offered me a free shuttle bus ride back to work or to a nearby shopping mall. Since the oil change only took 30 minutes, I stayed. Good work too. Gee, quality work and I saved the taxpayers some money - no brainer.
My personal vehicles are Toyotas. My dealership offers an oil change with Castrol GTX, OEM filter, with fluid top off for $30. I change my own but if I didn't, I would go here.
Now the local Dodge dealership are a bunch of crooks and can eat hot fiery death with my blessings before I'll ever go back to them.
Anyway, my point is to consider the local dealership. Many are realizing that they're losing a lot of business so are offering competitive deals on oil changes.
