Jiffy Lube, 21 Bronco

Also reading through this thread...the notion that a quick lube place is much different than the dealer's own quick lube/techs is falesy. I've had plenty of dealer changes and the Focus rolled out one time without the oil cap on...what a mess. Learned then to always lift the hood/visually inspect before leaving someplace that worked on my car. Lube techs can be a 17 year old kid making $12/hour regardless of the name on their shirt.

I used to help a friend of mine with his Honda Civic back in the day with oil changes. One day i had to put a screwdriver through it as it was on so tight.

This tool will stop those screw driver days.

Maybe the car owner bears some responsibility for driving with the oil light on. I would suggest that there's blame on both sides.

People discuss the lack of knowledge and skill on the part of repair shops and technicians, but maybe the lack of knowledge on the part of vehicle owners plays a part in some situations.
I understand completely and understand your point of view, however a repair/oil change facility is paid for a service and has a contractual responsibility to complete the job with appropriate fluids, filter and craftsmanship.

why does anyone take a new-ish still under warranty vehicle to Jiffy Lube?
Money. Enterprise Fleet, Hertz, WEX and now Lyft ain’t paying dealer labor rates - or the hour it takes a dealer’s “express” lane to change oil. If it’s not at an airport location, Hertz and Enterprise tend to farm out to Firestone. Lyft entered the service business for their drivers.

The hoi polloi, us included think dealers are expensive. The local Toyota/Honda/Ford dealers are competitive against the quick lubes.

Beats me and the oil changes are cheaper at the dealership than iffy lube. They charging $110 for full Synthetic 5qts in Long Island NY they can kick rocks

Im book marking your response for the "bash threads" so I can reference it.
Thank you!
Add this when you paste it.

I have been to Jiffy lube twice and NTB once with our shop truck (F150.)

JIFFY LUBE - First time, they didn't change the oil filter. Second time, they left the air filter housing "unlatched" when they looked at the air filter. In BOTH cases, the invoice said the work was "second checked" with a signature.

So, third oil change I took it to NTB. I always do a check in parking lot before I drive away, and good thing. They left the oil cap off! It was sitting next to the windshield wipers on windshield.........

Always went to dealership after that. Is it better? maybe? Not always. They Hyundai where I bought my car sure isn't......

My sampling size is small. Only 3. Yet, all 3 times it was a fail. Without question.

strap wrench, improvised chain wrench, one of these ^^ beauties.
just not the screwdriver piercing. Did it once, yes, it works but the mess.
I have a small strap wrench I saw in the garbage bin behind our business. Looked like it was in good shape so I grabbed it. Works fantastic for oil filters.

I work for a large manufacturer. 44,000 employees. Of which, roughly 14,000 have company vehicles, service vans, shop trucks, etc.

We can go anywhere we want for an oil change. Jiffy lube, dealer, etc. A lot of our employees go to Jiffy lube I'm sure......

In fairness, I took my last company vehicle, Ford Fusion, to our local Mavis. Every 5K it got a new filter and Valvoline Maxlife 5W-20. They always did a really good job, plus, I could see everything they were doing behind the glass. Of course, engine blew at 82,000 miles, but had nothing to do with the oil. Google 1.5L ecoboost engine issues if you're interested.
