Makes sense, that's pre-FIAT. We had an '06 Charger and the difference between it and the post-FIAT interiors was huge.

I was not a fan of the Daimler years. Other than a few really good platforms they shared with Mercedes, Chrysler didn't gain much from their ownership. I wasn't a fan of the blocky exterior designs or Rubbermaid interiors from those years.

It's amazing what FCA has managed to do with the platforms and interior upgrades they've done.

Yup, the rubbermaid interiors and dashboards that were 5ft deep are the things I recall most from that era, lol.

Dodge Caliber has entered the chat. I never noticed the absolutely massive Rubbermaid dashboard till you just now mentioned it lol… the good thing about those interiors is you couldn’t destroy them, I used my Caliber like a truck and it looked identical to a new one!

i don’t know why that car got so much hate

buddy had an srt4. very peppy very practical, storage compartments everywhere, two gloveboxes, plenty of room in the engine bay.

Windows that were slightly better than those on a Panzer, paired to the CVT it was like driving a really slow snowmobile and materials selection that must have been sponsored by Fisher-Price. My buddy's parents had one (this was of course before the Camaro showed up with its mini windows) and I couldn't believe how small the greenhouse felt.

Mine and my mom’s were both the 2.sl0w with the CVT that was more like a rubber band in terms of acceleration. And flooring it didn’t make it go faster, it just made more noise! But yes, as a pure “A to B” car with absolutely no thrills it was adequate…. I liked it more than the 95 Camry I had. The glove box beverage cooler was a cool idea though. My wife also said I looked like Mr. Incredible in it.

I forgot they only had CVTs for the auto option. i thought the SRT with the 6speed was a great car to drive, i couldn’t really hold the rock hard materials and 15 acre dashboard against it.

you’re right about the visibility but i guess it’s par for the course these days.

Body on frame, 6.4 hemi, Mcintosh audio, so much to like. Gotta make more money and buy one someday.

I can't get over the $2000 shipping charge! I do think it is a nice vehicle but too costly for me and it's amazing that this $100k market is so large with so many vehicles, mostly trucks, hitting and exceeding 100k in price.

We bought a new Chrysler Concorde in 2004, initially loved the car but after a couple months my wife said she hated the big dash and how it reflected in the windshield on sunny days. It was one of those things that didn't really show up when we test drove it but quickly became an issue when she drove it every day. Traded it on a Grand Marquis after less than six months ownership, took a beating but she loved the GM so it was worth it.

The Grand Wagoneer is a halo vehicle - it's not about high sales volume or profitability - it's all about hey look at what Jeep can do now buy a Wagoneer or more likely a Grand Cherokee. Sure, people with more money than they know what to do with will buy them but "regular folks" won't. If they sold more than 10,000-20,000 Grand Wagoneers per year in the first few years I'd very surprised.

Exactly. The Wagoneer (starting at ~$70,000 MSRP) will be more popular… as will the 3 row Grand Cherokee L (starting at ~$37,000).

Yup, that's a very good summation IMHO. My parents may look at one, they've been considering a RAM 1500 but love a big BOF SUV (they currently drive a 21 year old Expedition). Boomers with lots of money will be an interested demographic I assume.

But I wonder if it carries prestige in that price range? A number of friends and folks I know who have RR, MB, X5/7, Q whatevers also have Wranglers or a Renegade for their kids but don't currently own GC's, but may have had them in the past. These folks also know little about the vehicles beyond what they need... Will they see this as an attempt by the company that makes their kids cars??

Marketing is a funny area, especially high end retail. If they get into the heavy discount situation, that could hurt them...or sell enough. Time will tell.

I hope they sell and I can see them taking share from the Tahoe/Yukon/Suburban market.

It will. There are plenty of folks with that kind of money who are leaving the cities and overpaying for houses right now with cash.

This won't be a mass market vehicle for the average buyer, it's aimed at the Denali market.

Incredibly smart move by Jeep to cash in on people interested in these things. I am guessing 96 month financing is coming soon for these and demographic.

The original Jeep Grand Wagoneer was a total POS constantly at Jeep dealer. My parents had one in early 80's but thankfully a low speed collision into ice snow bank(aka concrete wall) demolished the vehicle.

Grand wagoneer ok. Wagoneer L is probably the most useless combo I’ve seen from the Jeep line up. Just like the Compass/Patriot twins.

two 3 row SUVs that basically only differentiate with their price tags. I feel the wagoneer L will be dropped after the first refresh.

Your comment made me remember a trip I took in a friends Wagoneer way back when. This would have been during the American Motors time. We went fishing way out on a reservoir in Eastern Oregon. That Jeep was a rattletrap. Every bump in the road was heard and felt.

Grand Cherokee L is the 3 row Grand Cherokee, Grand Wagoneer is a different vehicle. I'm not a huge fan of the styling, but I can tell you from a business perspective they will have no problem selling either of them. I can throw a rock in the work parking lot and probably hit 20 Grand Cherokees, and about 30 other expensive SUVs. It's pretty much all people drive up here in the North East.
