Compare the pricing atleast to the competitors, I was kind of surprised how much new but over a year old Cherokees were going for when we bought our Outback. I think for used the not Wrangler or Grand Cherokee ones can be a good deal, if buying new I'd always pay the small premium for a Forester or an Outback, RAV4, etc.

A big hell no from me. Had a 2019 as a rental.. I actually called Hertz to see if I could drive all the way back to the airport to switch it out.

They’re stuck in the past and think that a manufacturer cannot improve ever.
Drove it's twin, a '12 Patriot a few years ago with the 2.0 and stick for a few months. With 120,000 miles, it felt and drove as tight as any Toyota or Honda I've had. I wouldn't hesitate to drive one long term.
Did yours have the 2 range transfer case? I thought that might be a fun little logging road explorer.

My daughter has one, the only thing I know about it is that the brakes are insanely sensitive. I'm not exactly sure how she drives it, but even a light brush of the pedal seems like it sends you through the windshield. And I'm a person that prefers good initial bite, this turns the knob to 11, and then some.

Got to be honest. I’m a dealer tech I see a lot of compasses we get to sell used like as in used car inspections. There is rarely anything wrong with in the first 30-40k miles. I would rate them good reliability honestly. They are kinda lethargic engine wise if you are looking for that (not all are) like for example a 1.5 turbo civic seems much quicker
the things I have seen with them and they are all super minor. The oem Tires can wear pretty quickly. Most aren’t going rotates so that can factor it in. Key fob batteries go about 2.5 years. Front sway bar links are plastic and some of them have been worn (noisy) over certain pavement. Like I said all super minor stuff like basically nothing
so if you like it I would say go for it

I think you have me confused for someone else. I’ll call out a terrible car when I see it, but I will not blanket statement entire brands. Would it make you feel better if I said… oh I don’t know… Toyota, or Subaru maybe, makes the greatest cars ever and anyone who doesn’t think the same has a “persecution complex” and is just blinded by brand loyalty? Because that’s how you act.
