I am considering trading my dart in on a 2016 mazda cx5 gt, I have drove the Cherokee and the mazda and the mazda was the best by far. Better ride and handling. And it's 2.5l skyactive motor was great along with a very good transmision. I have read that some of the cx5s needed new trans before 30k but I think it had something to do with a recall. I know it doesn't have a 100k warranty but neither does toyota or honda. Maybe look into the mazda in the grand touring trim

+1 to this. Or the warranty. Our Town & Country minivan had a fine warranty -- we used it a lot and never paid out of pocket for trips to the dealership. That didn't make the ownership experience less frustrating, though. We bought the T&C because of how much vehicle you got for $ paid. For an Odyssey with the same equipment list, we'd have had to come up with an extra 8 grand.
In the end, though, we ended up spending WAY more money in time and frustration with that van, coupled with the depreciation of selling it with only ~45k miles on it. Couldn't trust it, though. You cannot put a price on trust in my opinion.
Anyway, if we'd have bought another brand, we'd probably still have it.

If your wife LIKES the Cherokee, then do some more research on how the late 2015s and 2016s are holding up in the real world. Its been on the market long enough that most of the too-early-to-production 9-speed and associated software should be getting pretty well sorted out. Go read the KL platform forum at Jeepforum.com for tons of info (http://www.jeepforum.com/forum/f428/), read the pages and pages of issues, and note the year models involved.
A year ago, I would have said avoid it like the plague based on reliability problems (and I'd still advise anyone to run screaming away from a used one), but the '16s should be a lot better. My present-day beef with it is two-fold, neither of which relates to reliability like it did early on:
1) I think its hideous, but then there are lots of people out there that like the Nissan Joke, too.
2) I don't like utility vehicles based on a front-drive layout, with the usual front-drive forward weight and front-wheel torque bias, together with cheesy electronic attempts at a real transfer case system. Granted, the KL is better than your average Mazda/Ford Truibutescape, RAV-4, CRV, Murano, Equinox, etc. on that score... but it still aint Quadratrac.

I just spoke with a guy in a parking lot yesterday that owns a 2015 and asked how he liked it. He said the transmission sucked, reinforcing what I heard and read prior. It goes along with what I said as well as others in this thread. I'd stay away from it.
Another one to consider would be the new Lexus nx200t. Pretty sharp looking vehicle especially one with the f sport package.
