Jeep 2L Four Cylinder Turbo

Yeah. The ESP makes mention of SP and SN+ … Mobil would know a thing or two on the subject …

However, it is not approved for API SP (0W30) as it has higher phosphorus levels than API allows for a 30 grade.
The ZDDP level between PPE L 5W30 and ESP 0W30 are very similar. Both will have phosphorus above 800ppm, while PPE has Zinc above 900ppm.
Calcium levels are also similar, ESP being around 1700, while PPE is around 1900.
I personally would use both before 5W30 EP any day.

ESP 5W30 is a bit lower on all, having the latest Infineum add pack for low-SAPS Euro vehicles.

5W-30 ESP … what I use down south …
maybe edit that in? since it doesn't show anywhere in your post.. people might assume its the 0w30 mentioned by edyvw.
which is this sheet:

I would consider the 2.0L in a Wrangler. The Medium world engine has been around since 2016 - anyone know of any real high mile specimens?

Lord knows the Pentastar had its share of problems historically, although I believe they claim they are fixed.

I know a guy on the Xterra boards that got one and is quite happy with it. If you can go from an Xterra to a 2.0 Wrangler and not be cranky about it, it must be good. :ROFLMAO:

If you want to use Pennzoil Use regular pennzoil platinum. it has the jeep spec ms-13340 That the 2L hurricane engine recommended.. at least on my 2019 jeep.
you dont specify which jeep so its hard to pull an owners manual.
-wrangler, Grand Cherokee, Compass all come with a 2L.

Euro L is not the right oil for that engine.

2025 Rubicon 2.0L Hurricane

So is the general opinion that EP is best?

agreed, I just thought mentioning your spec sheet was for esp 5w30 would be nice for clarity.

What thread have you been reading :ROFLMAO:.
I see multiple mentions of ESP and 1 of EP

A couple hard recommended against any Euro oils.

And ESP does not carry the MS-13340 approval.

I will go with 5w30 EP.

The org. euro oil(pennzoil euro L) you linked wasn't api SN+ or SP. Which was why people were recommending against it (including me)

ms-13340 is an lspi rating that predates api SP

Any oil rated API SP or SP engine test has the LSPI test which obsoletes ms-13340

m1 esp 5w30 is API SP and IMO superior to M1 EP 5w30.. not that there is anything "wrong" with M1 EP.
m1 esp 0w30 "exceeds" api sp engine tests. so it is also ok for LSPI.

The hurricane 2.0 engine is direct injected and turbocharged and known for fuel dilution.
I feel you would benefit from a thicker oil ESP is around 12cst@100c, and EP is 10.1 which may thin out of grade with fuel dilution.

I owned a 2019 cherokee with the 2.0 for 55000 miles.

Ok... understanding that... Would the newer SQ be better?

A quick look up.... Castrol Edge is the only SQ I could find.

API SQ Performance Requirements
Gasoline-powered engine technology has evolved rapidly in recent years towards more compact, highly-efficient design to meet increasingly stringent fuel efficiency and emission requirements. As a result, modern engines have different needs from previous generations. Oils formulated to the API SQ standard are intended to address a number of issues, including:

Enhanced fuel economy: Friction within an engine is a major factor in energy consumption. Advanced lubrication can help reduce friction and improve fuel efficiency.
  • LSPI Protection: Low-speed pre-ignition refers to a spontaneous, premature combustion that can occur in turbocharged engines, resulting in engine “knocking” and potentially serious damage. API SQ oils will be formulated to mitigate this risk.
  • Improved engine cleanliness: New engine oils are designed to keep engine components cleaner, which improves engine performance and longevity.
  • Increased durability: API SQ oils are intended to provide improved protection against wear, extending the life of critical engine parts such as timing chains.
  • Regulatory standards: API SQ lubricants will align with current industry and environmental regulations.

Let’s be clear, FIAT approval is nothing special. It is an afterthought that serves internal warranty purposes.
Any oil that has MB229.51 or MB229.52 approval will be better anything API, whether it is SP or SQ.
The reason why they don’t carry that FIAT approval is that MB229.51/52 etc. are not energy conserving oils. Their HTHS is too high.
So, during warranty, I would use what has that FCA approval. After that, I would never put in my turbo engine, regardless of manufacturer, anything but oil that carries MB229.51/52.
By the way, MB229.52 and latest BMW LL update (2022) have LSPI test.

I believe the manufacturer specs 5w-30 and at least SN+. If SP rating is already superior to Alfa specs and if you're going to change the oil at 5,000 miles do you even need MB 229.52, etc.?

Nice! As much as I've had good luck with Pentastars, some of the late model Wrangler/pentastar disaster videos I've seen makes me think the turbo 4 is a good option for these.

Its different .. runs more like a small V8 high torque low redline
where the v6 pentastar revs like a 4cyl and lower torque.

Pretty edgy though. 150ft-lb per 1 liter of displacement? The hp number is modest because redline is around 5k.

Definitely likes premium gas in the summer.. but will run and tow ok on 87.

Mine threw some sort of fuel injection code around 34000miles and they replaced $2400 in parts under warranty before deciding it was the ECU which fixed it.

Just took delivery on a 2025 Jeep 2L turbo, 4 cylinder. When purchasing a brand new vehicle, I always dump the oil before 500 miles to get rid of all the break-in metals. Factory recommends 5w30.

Wonder if this is a good oil for the turbo....

Here are your best choices if you want to stick to the majors. I will try to leave a link to each.

I suggest avoiding a Euro oil, as it is not formulated to help prevent LSPI (low speed pre ignition). Instead I suggest Mobil 1, 5W-30EP. It is a great oil for turbocharged engines, and handles heat exceptionally well and absolutely will not coke up (carbon deposits) the turbocharger. It also is among the very best when it comes to keeping engines clean. Including piston oil ring drain holes.

I use it (with great results) in my supercharged and tuned Jag, along with my 5.0 F150.

It is a very capable oil and will not shear or oxidize in your turbocharged 4 cylinder. In fact, I'm finding that it has a clear redish tint when I drain it. Very few oils remain clear in my Jag.

I bring up the coking on the turbo because these engines are known for being hard on turbos.

what's that dexos spec on the bottle?
