Seems to me that dwelling on something that happened more than 65 years ago isn't very productive, especially when you consider
the country in question is one of our biggest allies today, and one of the few countries who's population has an overall very positive view of the USA.

Well they should have a "very positive view" of U.S. since they were able to become a VERY wealthy nation due to raping us trade imbalance wise (and NOT all of it was due to 'superior products' as some would have us think

why did japan attack pearl harbor? when historians later asked former japanese leaders about this, they said that japan was threatened by the OIL embargo put on japan by fdr in the 1930's; it is always about the OIL.

You're on the wrong forum for this. There was an oil embargo, but also an embargo of almost every natural resource Japan couldn't produce as the result of their incessant attacks and human rights violations in China. In any case, war was probably inevitable and both sides had serious war-plans against one another. I think killing hundreds of thousands of Japanese civilians in bombing raids was probably more than enough pay back for Pearl Harbor.

the worst thing i have ever seen was the gallery of pictures- undeniable, original source photos, in the book "the rape of nanking" by iris chang: japanese soldiers, during WWII, with s eating grins on their faces while conducting bayonet practice on the good citizens of the city of nanking, china, for starters; so haunted was author iris chang from the telling of the story of these atrocities, that she committed suicide- years later; memo to op: check out my vehicle and oil choices.

^^^Yes, when I think about what I've read in that book, it actually makes me ashamed to be using Sustina oil, and NGK plugs and O2 sensors. (I am being straight up here, NOT facetious, or sarcastic, BTW.)

I had a girlfriend from central, mainland China, and she confirmed those horrors as told to her by her parents.

Agreed. Hiroshima and Nagasaki imo, more than make up for anything Japan ever did. I can't think of a more horrible punishment.
