Jack Stands Load Rating

Since yours were made before 2014, there really is no clarity. FWIW, a jack stand can still be rated per stand today. It simply wont be 2014 ASME compliant though.

IMHO, If I didn’t know it was per pair or per stand, I might as well assume the 6 tons are per pair to be one the safe side. But seriously, even if it is 6 tons per pair, that’s the capacity to hold a 12,000 lb axle. What are you lifting?

Understood. Just want to be confident about a vehicle hanging in the air above my body! Super careful is the only way to go-seen guys at junk yards getting under vehicles with just the tire jack holding it up. Can't cure stupid

Here’s a photo of my son’s 2010 Silverado up in the air to do suspension work. The trucks weighs 5,400 lbs. There are two jack stands ( black in color ) holding the front off the ground. Each stand has a 3 ton rating, (6,000 lbs). The front half of the pickup is at least 2,700 lbs and maybe more like 3,500 lbs as pickups are front heavy. The two stands together can hold 12,000 lbs, but even if you half that, it’s still 6,000 lbs, almost twice as much as the 3,500 lbs the front of the trucks weighs.

Also, I parked the jack in between the two stands and it has a 6,000 lb capacity. Should be good.

The red stands were used under each of the A arms while removing the lower ball joints.
