Who the heck needs airbags? We've lived without air bags for decades...

Six speeds are at least 1 (maybe 2) too many.

Air bags are the price that people pay for freedom.

I agree that 6 spd are one too many, you only need 5 and a torqier engine, honda's

I like my air bags though.

gotta stop those SUV's somehow.

And I thought TL's came with 6 spd's from the factory.

I would have sold it before the conversion and bought a S2000 or MX5... 6 speed, air bags, in a light weight good handing RWD car.

Should've said "people."

The 6-spd TL was avaliable beginning in 2004, with the 3rd generation.

This is a second generation TL (99-03), which was only avaliable in Automatic.

I wouldn't want to give up the 6 speed in my Corvette. It's got a got a good functional 5 gearratios properly spread for performance oriented driving and a big tall overdrive 6th that's good for 3 to 4 more mpg on the highway.

I must need an engine with more torque

Any car that doesn't have a top gear that's way too tall to achieve top speed is wasting a lot of gasoline.

The closer or better-spread ratios of a 6 speed compared to a 5 speed are always a good thing, IMHO. I'd prefer a 6 speed with the same 1st gear and highest gear as the 5 speed in my Mazda3.

Interesting concept, but a conversion like that is way more work than I'd want to do!

All depends upon your perspective. Since without question I'd be dead today were not for the side curtains that were installed in the car I was driving back on 3/1/03, you won't find me playing with the bags in any of my cars.

You could make the same arguments (and many did) about seatbelts. Would you be inclined to rip them out of your car too???

Mike, now I hope you never experience the wreck that will convince you of the error of your ways (

), but if you do, I promise you you'll be changin' your tune. . .

Air bags are a price we pay after letting the nanny state take some of our freedom away...
