Nearly a year ago my brother left a 5qt jug of M1 5w30 open after doing an oil change. Still have 3qt left. It was stored inside the house the whole year and only have a few yellow streaks from the opening. I normally used MS5K because I found it cheaper but having 3 qt of M1 and 1qt from MS5K its perfect for my 2008 sentra 2.0

Can I still safely use the 3qt left?
And its ok to top it with MS5K?

BTW both oil are 5w30

As long as no dirt or dust got in you will be fine.

You mean he didn't have the cap on the jug such that dust may falling into the oil jug ?

If the oil jug is totally open then you need to filter it before use.

According to Mobile, the shelf life of an opened container is 1 year, so you're probably ok. One way to test is to slowly pour some into a glass- if it separates into layers then it's definitely gone bad.

Use it as long as nothing fell into it. Maybe strain it when you pour it into your rig

thanks! I prefer to ask first because I remember reading somewhere that oil could trap moisture after the seal was broken (like new)

and yes it had the cap the whole time, only the outside its a little bit dusty.

Right now i'm using some cheap Krafft 20w50 mineral oil i found in a parking lot that was half full , it turns out the bottle is about 7 years old, i gave it a good shake and when i poured it in it looked fine, so no you're not gonna have problems

I've found Kraft products when I lived in Spain (and only there), it's maybe a spanish brand? I remember them being on the cheep side products, how are they quality-wise?

Yeah, in a flat tappet vintage engine this is exactly the kind of oil I would use. I think you've had much luck finding this oil in a parking lot because it perfectly suits the needs of your car - viscozity wise and with a nice amount of ZDDP (something quite hard to find in recent times).
