Isuzu Rodeo Valvetrain Noise : Castrol

I have 96 Trooper S and had the terrible valve noise too. What fixed it was new semi synthetic oil , Valvolene 15w40, with 1 quart of MMO mixed in. Took about a week for the noise to significantly diminish and another week for it to be gone. MMO I plan to leave in for the whole time before another change.
I went with a thicker oil as the MMO will thin it out.
Marvel Mystery Oil.

Yeah that's pretty good, a 15-year old thread resurrection

We still have ours, a 2001 Trooper and 1994 Isuzu Rodeo.

The Trooper is running well with Mobil 1 Turbo Diesel Truck 5W-40 oil. The Rodeo was having the ticking, then, I found an oil that really quieted it down, to the point of not hearing it,except for a little bit at start-up then it would go away. That oil is Rotella 10w30.

Lubegard also promises to quiet valve noise. "Eliminates lifter and other objectionable noise on startup, especially in cold weather"

Also, another oil additive we are just trying out is Hot Shot's Secret. The results are good so far. The FR3 is suppose to "reduce lifter and valve noise" and we can say for a fact it does. It is in my brother's 1997 Civic And the valvetrain at idle is silent. Impressive, considering it has over 350,000 milles on it. Prior to using it, you could the valvetrain a little bit at idle, a little noisy, now, all you can hear is the exhaust noise.
