I found this interesting:

This was in the San Joaquin Herald (CA) 02Jan08.

Is this a typical OCI for a tractor?

No, They can usually go alot longer. I know a couple guy's who typically run around 20,000 miles between changes.

That number has to be wrong. It's worth more in scrap. That OCI was low mileage for my 1979 VW Rabit Diesel.

..but that doesn't mean that he's not idle more than he's working.

ya, most of those numbers seem out of whack. doesnt say what the man gets paid of if he blows his money(women,drink/drucks,gamble,ect.).

his son still had enough for that big screen. only in America!

That's what I was thinking. Not being a tractor kind of guy (I do use HDEO in one of my cars) I figured OCI's for tractors would be in the tens of thousands of miles.

I figure either the newspaper either pulled that number off of a Google search or the driver was just quoted incorrectly.

I once worked for a paving equipment dealership and we had an IH tractor (488T?) we used to deliver equipment to work site for demo's, etc. The company owner used to have me change the oil in that thing every 3k miles. What a waste of 8 (?) gallons of SAE30 Delo. The thing I hated most was the Luberfiner cover would always leak and it was a pain to get it to seal properly.

If I'd known better at the time, I would have save the drained oil for my own vehicles.

oil cahnge and fuel are way off. Tanks are 125 gallons each times $3.35, is a lot more than $200 per fill-up.
10-12k is the minimum i find with fleets and that is way old school.
Most are going at least 20k, many 25k, and the extenders are going 35k-60k.
