I was just getting tires on my car a few days ago. A guy was in there. He had just put new tires on his car, put maybe 500 miles on it, got a nail in the tire. The nail was outside the tread and was not safe to patch, so they put a new tire on for free, no questions asked. I thought that was pretty good service.
Doesn't hurt to ask the tire store to see what they think, and maybe, if you are lucky, they can offer a free or reduced price repair.

Don't worry about it, unless you see a bubble bulging out on the side or something like that. On the other hand I once bought a set of tires from TireRack and it arrives like this, I complained and they send me a set for exchange. It is more of a cosmetic reason than safety.
Don't mess around with broken rubbers.
