Is this ok for my dad 02 ford explorer ?

My dad 02 ford explorer 4.0L 110,000 miles, and he only drive about 20 miles a day, Im thinking using maxlife 10w30 and change every 5k miles, sound good to ya'll ?

we live in the south, no their is no snow, our lowest cold temperture is 40 degree. is maxlife 5w30 or 10w30 ? will motorcraft oil filter can go 5k miles ? thanks

What was he using for the previous 110K miles? That seems to have been doing well for him, why change? Just asking is all.

The maxlife will do fine at 5K intervals. Motorcraft filter will be fine as well for 5K intervals, could probably drain the filter and reuse it for another 5K interval

He been taking his old car ( 95 ford winstar ) to car care clinic and they put 10w30 castrol gtx for 5 years, and I just swith to maxlife 10w30 and it been 3200 miles without loosing a single drop of oils. He gave this car to my little brother

now he own 02 ford explorer 110k miles, take to same place and they put same kind of oils 10w30 castrol gtx, after 3k miles the oil still look good and feel smooth. But i say I can change oil for him, use a good oils and motorcraft oil filter and change every 5k miles. he say ok, so now im looking for him a good oils for high miles engine.

sticking with an oem filter is smart thing to do - any brand conventional oil will work just fine... 10w30 is good for the winter months and 10w40 for summer.

Sounds like no issues with his setup....keep oil and filter durations the same and report back if anything changes.

I never go over 3k miles on any car even with mobil 1, what is safe miles to have oil change on maxlife ? and one more thing I want to be clear, my dad only use 20 miles a aday, so it will take many month to be 5k , so should I go with month or miles. Some time it take him over 8 month for getting 3k miles.

I've done 4k+ with MaxLife with no issues... even with short trip driving. Personally, I would just change it at 3k but keep it in no longer than a year. I used to have a commute where I would only put on between 3-5k a year, and I would just change it whenever it hit 3,000 miles regardless of time, which usually worked out to be between 6-8 months. Never had any issues with that car.

if it takes many months to get 5K, conventional will work well but I think I would prefer to have syn in there
