Is this a Mobil 1 issue or ?

Its a Corvette. You didn't buy it to hypermile and compete with Prius. Volt, Leaf, or TDI. And, you won't save the world by not changing the oil. So, 4-5k or 50% OLM and enjoy the vehicle. A couple extra gallons of oil over the years isn't going to be all that of a budget breaker. And, don't forget the other fluids.

Give it a Gunk, Lubegard, Wynns, BG, GoldEagle, Lubromoly, or Amsoil... 5-10 minute cold engine at the next oil change.

My engines don't clack. Thank you preventive maintenance.

haha so true the spelling Nazis are always quick to jump.

Using more oil changing it more or less is fine. But you should have to using Mobil 1 I guess is the point. I should have taken a sample for testing. I should be able to have used and use Mobil 1 the full OLMs since car was new without wondering why the car developed lifter clack.

try a different oil like edge or ultra and see if you have better luck.

or you really go all out and run redline but i dont know if it would satisfy the warranty

I'd use Amsoil products over Redline cause I use and like Amsoil products. Nothing wrong with Redline. GM warranty has no clue to what brand I use. GM endorses Mobil. I'm just surprised to have this happen using a name brand synthetic.

Change the filter and top off the Mobil1. If noise doesn't go away, time for a new oil.

Edge, Synpower, or Ultra are easy choices. Or, try one of the other flavors of Mobil1 like extendedperf or himileage.

I agree. A little troubleshooting to try and see if the oil or the filter is at fault. MMO can free up junk in short order if the issue was minor, typically it takes longer but it can happen as the OP mentioned. I wouldn't be so quick to blame the oil JUST YET. As far as the OLM goes after reading all the problems with DI engines, and seeing DI UOA reports I don't have much faith in them, even in an engine like yours that is not DI. I better hide now.

It was not a oil filter issue. It was ONE lifter. Oil was full and has not ever dropped off in this car. One pint of MMO ran 140 miles of normal driving over two days and no noise. As I said I wish I had done a UOA on the oil that was in it. In he last 15 years or so in cars and trucks I've never had one do this. This is the only vwehicle I have used Mobil 1 in.All the others have been Amsoil some with three to four times the OCI that I let this vette go. Maybe a lifter going bad? Sure strange that the one pint of MMO cleared it up.

You put the oil in or the dealership? (the oil that came out).

Was it the right weight?

5w30 The dealer is a Corvette specialy dealer. Was until recently the number 1 in sales.service or such in the U.S. Was told the other day they are number 2 or 3 and owners are upset.LOL he shop, quick lube etc.is really first class. I love their Quick lube set up.

I'm thinking the MMO thinned the oil, perhaps allowing it to dislodge whatever was causing the lifter tick.

OCI were by the OLM. When it got to 10% or less. Except this time. It was at 44%. I don't know, should have gotten a UOl done. I do think this is my last usage of Mobil 1. I'll either use Amsoil or a Penzoil.

I agree. Of course varnish is not his problem with M1 oils. Honda recommends M1 5-30 with their HTO-06 spec(for their turbos) because it resist deposites in high heat areas of an engine better than most oils. PP is one that also has this spec. This is why Corvette went with M1 and other oils that meet their 4718 high heat spec.
