Look for a high treadwear index. It's not an exact science - more of a guesstimate, but generally the higher the index, the longer the life.
Also look for all-season tires rather than some high performance summer tires. The Ecsta AST suggestion is a good one. Cooper Zeon Sport As is another one that has a relatively high treadwear rating: 400.
