i want some of these tires,but not some that wear out fast. what can i look for on the tire sidewall?
is there long-lasting 205/45/17's?

Look for a high treadwear index. It's not an exact science - more of a guesstimate, but generally the higher the index, the longer the life.
Also look for all-season tires rather than some high performance summer tires. The Ecsta AST suggestion is a good one. Cooper Zeon Sport As is another one that has a relatively high treadwear rating: 400.
BTW, I make no claims as to the performance of any of these tires.
If you can use either 205/40-17 or 215/45-17 then General Tire Exclaim UHP is probably the best buy. Good tread life at 380, good performance and quiet ride for as little as $58 each for 205/40-17 + shipping from Tirerack.
Yeah, if you want that size and you're worried about treadlife, look to price. You'll feel better wearing out a set of Sumitomos vs. a set of Michelin Pilot Sports.
