There's some smart cookies on the board so I figure it's worth a shot.
Long story short, I have two Snap-on ratchets that I've been trying all kinds of different oils and greases in in an effort to make them quiet. These are the previous generation 936 series which have the 36 tooth gears and they are very noisy. In steep contrast, the current generation 80 series with their 80 tooth gears are very quiet. While trying all these different lubes, the seals inside have had an allergic reaction and have swelled up large enough to where they no longer fit in their bores. The material they're made out of I'm guessing is black neoprene. I'm assuming it's the petroleum ingredients in the lubes that have caused the seals to swell. Is there any way to reverse the process ?
