is there a dino 0w-20 or the best 5w20 in a jug?

Hi, I'm driving a brand new '09 1.8l Toyota Matrix with about
1800m on the clock still on my factory fill. I have one first free oil change available from the dealer, which I will take it in soon for the first oil change (and get a couple of rattles looked at). I don't know if it identifies the FF but my car has an Oil Change sticker from Citgo with 3000m written on it. I wonder if that means the factory fill is citgo 5w20 dino?

Anyway I was planning on changing my own oil after the free one. My owners manual recommends 0w20 over 5w20 - my question to bitog is there a dino 0w20 available? I could only see synthetic mobil 1 0w20, PP5w20 - I don't want to pay like $6 qt for synthetic I think would be a waste with 5k OCI. Failing that, what would be a good, readily available 5w20 for me to throw into the matrix?

What's up ya'll, been lurking in the bitog forums for a while

No dino 0W-20, 5W-20 dino is available. Pennzoil yellow bottle 5W-20 is a great choice. I used that for my first OC on my new Jeep and will switch to PP 5W-20 on the next OC. I have looked everywhere for PP 0W-20 and no one carries it in my neck of the woods. I had AAP call their supplier and they don't stock it either, I would rather not order it online.

The only 0W-20 choice I have is Mobil 1 which I'll pass on and use the PP 5W-20 which is what the Jeep calls for anyway. I am hoping to get some PP 0W-20 for the winter. Hopefully by that time someone will stock it locally.

I just got my supply of ARX and plan on using 4 oz with the 5W-20 PP in my new Jeep.

Wow so there's 2 of ya both adding 4oz ish of auto rx? Now you've got me wondering why do you add a product like that to a new engine?

Well thanks for the replies, I will probably end up using GTX or Penzoil as they seem easy to find.

I gather this new engine (2zr-fe) has an oil filter cartridge style rather than a cannister type oil filter. not a problem....

Pennzoil
Havoline
Motorcraft

I added ARX to my new Acura RIGHT ON THE LOT! It's actually pretty ideal for break-in debris and general lubricity in a new engine where you still have high and low spots and the associated loads.

I'd rather add it to a new engine than wait for a year or two later. I'll probally go back to it after 50k or so, but yeah it's the kind of thing you use if you are into your engine and oils.

I wouldn't bother with a 0W oil unless you need to start you vehicle in very cold weather, -20F or lower, or want to use a synthetic for longer oil changes. For 5-6k mile oil changes modern 5W-20 conventional oils will deliver synthetic like performance.

Id go pennzoil for conventional, M1 or PP for syn.

Id not run LC20 right away, in fact, at one point it was reccomended to let the engine break/wear in first.

After breakin, say 5k miles, Id run LC20.

So will LC20 or AutoRX improve gas milage and the engines life expectancy? Also where do most of you buy it? I did a search and gather that it's mail order only. Then comes the questions, do you add 4oz to each new oil change, every 5k or just do it once?

Thanks for the replies on the oil, have a good day.

No it will not improve your MPG or extend the life of the engine IMO.

I've used LC20 (and FP60) and did not see any improvement over the time I used them.

With LC20, you add 1 oz per quart cap in your engine (so 4 oz in a 4qt sump) and then 1 oz per 1000 miles.

In my Corolla which I keep records of everything it uses and have run at least a dozen UOAs its MPG has not changed due to any oil more than .5 mpg (and that was with older known thick SL oil).

Enjoy the Corolla, follow the manual and change the oil every 5k or 6month whichever comes up first.

You'll have an excellent long life car. I love mine. Almost 107k in 3 years and still going like new.

Pennzoil 5w-20 yellow bottle is an excellent oil! GTX also.

Take care, Bill

PS: LC20 and ARX are mail order only BTW

motorcraft in a jug (synblend) is only 10.40 at china mart...any api oil is good...i dont use any additives, all car and oil companies dont reccomend them

One of the ester components of Auto-Rx has FM properties.

You must be a proud backer of Slick-50 products. However, today's Slick-50 is owned by Shell and does no contain teflon anymore.

think he was joking around with this comment!

My Walmart has Mobil clean 5000 in 5-20 for $1.97 a quart, making it the cheapest brand name dino oil available there. I may try it next time if I decide to deviate from good ole Pennzoil.

Dr Haas recommends the Mobil Clean 5000.

"These are the motor oils I recommend. This is based on information that I just happened to collect. My opinion
on these oils is based on viscosities. I have not gotten
the specifications of all oils out there. The asterisk
is my preferred from each group of very similar products.
And these are usually easier to find in my experience."

Non-Synthetic

20 wt:
Penn regular Multigrade 5W-20
Mobil Clean 5000 5W-20*

Synthetic Blends

Motorcraft 5W-20*
Valvoline Durablend 5W-20
