is there a cheaper oil pump for samples?

I split my time between chicago and phoenix and have the need for another pump to take samples. I really don't want to drop $25 on another blackstone pump. anyone have a suggestion on a more cost effective pump??

I found B-S's to be the cheapest in my reasearch. It's not really a mass consumer item. Most are $20 on up ..but when you add S&H they end up being $27-30+ $$

Question..

How do you get the pump clean for the next sample?

Does it use tubes that get thrown away?

If not, would whatever you use to clean it affect the UOA next time?

I've always held the sample container in the drain stream...

50 ft (maybe it was 100ft

) of tubing is like $5 at The Home Depot (and other places). You just cut a new one for each sample. The rest of the pump never touches oil unless you screw up and tilt it around too much. I just pump until the bottle is full, pull the tube out of the sump until I start seeing bubbles form in it, unscrew the bottle, put the lid on it, let the hose drain back into the sump for a bit, remove, throw it away.

I guess you could use something like brake clean on it, but the cost of the stuff exceeds the cost of new tubing

Yep. Screws right on. I don't recall if a Butler works. The lid may be the same (

) but the bottle is different. I think that it has to since I'm sure that I didn't drain my oil for a Butler kit

I had pondered how one of the big 100cc syringes that we used for boiler water sample measuring would work. I don't think that you could clean it up enough (maybe

) for our purposes. It's fine for stuff where you just flush enough of the new sample through the thing to step on whatever is left behind

That is, you contaminate the syringe with so much new/fresh conaminant that you can't see the leftovers (draw and expell xx # of times with new stuff).

Butler works. So does MVTL I have the Amsoil..worth every Penny.
