A close friend of mine has a roommate that is behind on rent and has other problems that he wants to get rid of. I am looking for a place to live, and he'd charge me a much better than fair price. I know I get along with him very well and would have no problems living there.

The problem is that the roommate is a jiu-jitsu and muay thai black belt. He's a very polite guy but he has been known to come unhinged.

Is the cost too high?
 
Duct tape him to a chair. Problem solved. :-D

That, or get one of those tranquilizer dart guns they use on rampaging animals...

Drug him and beat him with phone books. Don't stop until he's unresponsive. Then strip him naked and drop him off in a bad part of town while he's still unconscious.

You probably won't hear from him again.
 
Why are the crazy ones always the martial arts experts? There should be a law against that.

The cost is too high for HIM to do anything. I was told that most states require people with so many skills to be registered as a lethal weapon. it sounds cliche but anytime those people get in trouble for any more than a traffic ticket the punishments can be worse.

Whoever told you that was lying. It's a common urban legend that is oft repeated.

All but a few US states do not require registration for firearms, let alone things like swords, daggers, knives, etc. What makes you think that hands would be regulated to a higher degree than firearms?

Hands, regardless of however trained the person they belong to is, are not required to be registered (or regulated in any other way) in any state in the US.
 
if he comes unhinged, then he has something wrong in the brain. High-end training in martial arts generally trains you how not to use them.

So you need to be wary of a brain chemistr imbalance, or perhaps an unknown drug addiction or something else. May well be super polite, but ou dont want to be stuck in the middle of a bad thing. You do not want to have to resort to sleeping with a firearm in order to be safe - this is your place of living, it should be zero stress or consideration for safety in the end.

So Id reall consider the deal vs. other options and see what the cost really is. See if you can do nearly as well someplace else. Do you get your own room?
 
The thing to remember is he is very disciplined. He may become unhinged but he would not direct it towards you(he shouldn't if he is well versed in martial arts).


If you are having doubts about it, then don't do it. If it were me, I'd buy a video camera and take him out to a bar. Get him loaded and record the fighting. Then send it to holly wood and make money!

These responses are funny. Kick him out, it's a business transaction. If there are problems call the police. The other option is to maintain the current situation which is continue hiding in the closet and paying the guy's bills for him like a wimp.

Legally evict the dude! It isn't rocket science. If he tries to start something, have the police on speed dial. Don't let some martial arts "expert" bully you or your friend around. Friends of mine that screw around with my money or things like rent no longer are my friends.

Not me, at least not in the past 22 years.
And I doubt any of the ones in my school have or will.
I suspect you don't know very many, at least very many good ones.
I agree that the typical 18-month and you're a black belt in Tae Kwon Do is usually a joke, but that's not the entire spectrum.
 
Agreed, the true artisan of the craft I'm sure are worthy opponents. I'm referring more to the guys who seem to get a black belt in six months from some place down at the strip mall.

Shouldn't have said most....maybe a lot?.....lol.

Strip mall McDojo's are a blight on martial arts.
