I actually used to be a fram ultra fan for a long time. Except they keep the boxes sealed so I can't inspect them now

Isn't that the older filters. My filter is the newer version with the more flat fluted end.If it has the cream colored potting material like shown in the Whip City video, I'd say it's good to go. Gotta look down the center tube with a strong LED flashlight and look to verify.
Same, same. Hastings as a brand has been shuttered since 2023 and only Baldwins are being produced. Are hastings still the same as Baldwin?
Yes, the "newer" FL-1A in the Whip City video had: 1) less flutes on the dome, 2) bypass (Purolator style) in the dome end, and 3) cream colored potting material. But that was a 2 year old video, so who knows today what changes have been made since then (ie, it's oil filter Whack-a-Mole).Isn't that the older filters. WHere do us mere mortals buy a Donaldsons?

I'm going to disagree on this one. I see some black glue that oozed out at the very bottom. Guess this one is a dud. This one is dated 11-13-23 That makes me sad because this one has nice louversYes, the "newer" FL-1A in the Whip City video had: 1) less flutes on the dome, 2) bypass (Purolator style) in the dome end, and 3) cream colored potting material. If you look down the center tube and see cream colored potting material around the dome end of the center tube circumference then it should be good and not shed any black glue since it doesn't use the black glue. What's it look like?
Every oil filter I've every looked at has glue inside the inner tube. Is it just motorcraft that uses a glue that doesn't hold up?Click on this thread and go through the whole thing.
As promised, below is the Motorcraft FL500s off my Mustang Mach1, 5k OCI. A couple of weeks ago I posted pictures of a FL910s with excess glue in the filter, and it appears the FL500s suffers from the same issue.
Upon seeing this, I threw my remaining FL500's in the trash and picked up some MicroGard Select filters from Orileys.
Honestly, it's disappointing to see this from a brand I relied on for so many years.

E core or holes. I don’t like louvers.
The ac delco has the plastic center tubeCarquest Premium or AC Delco for me.
They hold up just fine. The ac delco has the plastic center tube
Noting to disagree about ... it's either uses the black or cream colored glue and told you how to verify. Sounds like it doesn't have the cream colored glue, so now that it's been verified, then I'd say it's a NO-GO.I'm going to disagree on this one. Obviously the ones with the black glue that's been shown many times to easily come off. Throw Motorcraft under the bus and find another brand would be my suggestion.Every oil filter I've every looked at has glue inside the inner tube. Is it just motorcraft that uses a glue that doesn't hold up?
Nothing wrong with the nylon Ecore center tube. The ac delco has the plastic center tube
I used MC 910s for years in my 2017 Ford Fusion, but last summer I noticed glue in my oil change pan. Needless to say no more MC filters for me until this problem is corrected. What's the glue issue?
You made it sound like the newer filters don't use the black glue. That's what I disagreed on. The newer filters with less flutes on the end where you put a cap wrench indeed have the black glue like the one I have. Back to Walmart it goes. I'll just use the mobile 1 m-301a filter I bought yesterday. That one has black glue too, but hopefully it's a different type as the mobile 1 filter looks very similar to the fl-1aNoting to disagree about ... it's either uses the black or cream colored glue and told you how to verify. I simply said the "newer" Motorcraft in the Whip City video didn't use the black glue and instead showed cream colored glue. Then I asked you to look at the one you had to verify what color the glue was since that video was a couple year old and who know what's changed since then without some kind of verification. I said IF it was cream colored then it's OK to use.You made it sound like the newer filters don't use the black glue. That's what I disagreed on.
Go back and watch that Whip City video again, the newer Motorcraft in that video also had less flutes on the end cap, just like I already said in post 24. So that's not a good way to verify what's going on in the inside, and why I said look down the center tube to verify the glue color. The newer filters with less flutes on the end where you put a cap wrench indeed have the black glue like the one I have. No worries man, I just went by the glue color lolI simply said the "newer" Motorcraft in the Whip City video didn't use the black glue and instead showed cream colored glue. Anyway, as I've said in many threads ... I'd done with Motorcraft junk.
Yes, by looking down the center tube as suggested, as that's the only way to verify without cutting it open. M+H must have decided to not use the robust cream colored potting glue anymore since the WCW video, as it was too much cost and went with some cheap black RTV type of material, lol.No worries man, I just went by the glue color lol
