Is Diesel Efficient worth seeking out?

I recently acquired an 84 Mercedes 300SD Turbo Diesel with 200K+ miles on the odo. I just learned that there are two kinds of diesel fuel, plain and efficient. I checked and learned that diesel efficient contains additives that allegedly produce better fuel mileage, cleaner burning and all around better performance. Being a natural skeptic, I can't help but wonder how much of this is true. So, what can you tell me about your experience or knowledge about diesel vs diesel efficient. Is it worth seeking out and even paying a little more for it or is it just a marketing ploy?
The 3 liter engine in my 300 SD is known as the "million mile motor" as it routinely goes a million kilometers without rebuilding and I'd like to make this one the last car I buy and choosing the right fuel and additives I figure can make a difference. Thanks in advance.

I've owned my 2012 Ram CTD since 2016. I have ran both premium diesel and regular diesel with very little difference. I've also run B20 BioDiesel. With the B20, I do see a considerable drop in mileage, but that's the only difference I've noticed.

If you want to keep it running for a long time, change the fuel filter(s) per the recommendation with good quality filters, OEM IMO.

Just my $0.02

I've never heard that term before. I have found that my BMW diesel gets worse mileage if I use fuel with a higher concentration of biodiesel, such as Racetrac which is up to 20% biodiesel. Best mileage I've found is using Circle K diesel and 1 oz. of Hotshots EDT with every fill up.

There are a few stations that advertise Exxon Mobil Diesel Efficient locally, Meijers advertises Schaeffer’s Fuel Additives. I think Kwik Trip offers a premium diesel?

I would love to try the Exxon Mobil product but the nearest station with Diesel is about 25 miles away in a rough part of town. I've used the meijer product with good results. If it's close to the local market prices I would use without reservations.

Shell here, has 2 flavors of diesel, one is ~$1 more per gallon.... I don't think its ever going to pay fuel economy wise with that price difference... My tractor is simple indirect injection with no emissions equipment, so I don't feel the need to try it as it runs fine with any diesel I've used.
