I recently acquired an 84 Mercedes 300SD Turbo Diesel with 200K+ miles on the odo. I just learned that there are two kinds of diesel fuel, plain and efficient. I checked and learned that diesel efficient contains additives that allegedly produce better fuel mileage, cleaner burning and all around better performance. Being a natural skeptic, I can't help but wonder how much of this is true. So, what can you tell me about your experience or knowledge about diesel vs diesel efficient. Is it worth seeking out and even paying a little more for it or is it just a marketing ploy?
The 3 liter engine in my 300 SD is known as the "million mile motor" as it routinely goes a million kilometers without rebuilding and I'd like to make this one the last car I buy and choosing the right fuel and additives I figure can make a difference. Thanks in advance.
