Is current Walmart Supertech oil re-labeled QS?

I was at the local Walmart recently to see if they've restocked their M1 0w-40. I decided to see what else they had and noticed that the Walmart Supertech oil bottles were identical to the Quaker State conventional oil bottles. The plastic was a different color and the label was the same shape, but one had Supertech on it. Then I also noticed that the different grades the Supertech stuff came in were the same exact different grades offered by Quaker State. Also noticed QS offers a high-mileage oil, and that too had a seemingly identical counterpart as a Supertech. These similarities seem to be only true with the conventional oils.

The synthetics showed no such similarites between Supertech and QS.

Just wondering if someone had more information about this and can confirm? If they are the same, is QS conventional oil a good oil? Any UOAs? Also, I'm planning Auto-RX soon, and was wondering if the Supertech would be a good option to use with the Auto-RX?

Did you look on the bottom of the bottles for the "mark", supposed to be "WWP" for Warren Performance Products.

ST is supposed to be just fine for both the clean and rinse phases of Auto-RX according to the maker, Frank.

Warren makes the Supertech oil that ends up in New York, I don't know about other areas of the country.

I was reading that some of the different weights of supertech were made by XOM.

But the 5w30 is made by WPP.

Its an ok oil. I make 4k runs in the girlfriends neon with a ST filter, never a problem.

Here in Va are Wal-Marts have some ST oil that is made by Mobil (You can tell as its in the same bottle only blue) while also on the shelf it has ST made by WPP in the standard oil bottle

I guess you are saying your ST bottles designs are not the same. You must live in a low volume Walmart sales area.... out in the boonies and not a big city. There's a small area in this country where SOPUS bottles a Supertech flavor or three. But most of the country sees Warren. I will speculate that the Mobil bottles you saw are old. I think Mobil's contract ran out quite some time ago.... when SOPUS took over.

Don't know for a fact... just from what I've read here. Here in Lower Michigan.... it's Warren on the bottom of the ST jugs.

yes there are 2 diff bottles. Im not in a super big city but im not in the boonies either lol

I was in my walmart today Freehold New Jersey and realized that the 10w30 bottles strongly resembled the Mobil 5000 bottles with the big caps and the bottom of the bottle had the same markings (Not WPP) a large C with HDPE written. The 5w30 bottles do resemble Quaker state bottles and are labeled WPP. All of the higher weights 10w40 20w50 resembles and had the same markings as 10w30. All oil processed in Bentonville Arkansas just different bottles and marking on the bottom

It's also possible your store does well with other oil brands - but poor sales with ST. Thus the older stock. Also possible that they came to your store from another store that couldn't sell them. One thing's for certain.... Mobil
s contract with ST is done - from what I read here several months back.

I really wish I could find out who makes the Walmart Tech 2000 oil here in Canada. A lot of people have speculated it could be Petro Canada, but nobody knows for sure.

I've changed my mind a lot lately, but I'm now seriously considering trying out the Tech 2000 5w20 in my wife's car.

FWIW, I wouldn't necessarily put a lot of credence in the bottle similarity theory. In general, many plastics and plastic bottle designs are available on the market from plastics manufacturers and are not proprietary designs.

Of course some of the bigger players probably have their own contracted designs made by the plastics folks, and these are indeed proprietary. But I would suspect that many others aren't. I'm not speaking with insider knowledge of the pcmo companies, just from the plastics mfg perspective.

Check for consumption with 5w20 in that Civic, cause when I used 5w20 in a Civic speced for 5w30, it drank 1 quart of oil in 5K miles.

I switched back to 5w30 and consumption dropped to zero.

This car has never 'consumed' any oil. You would have to drive 10K miles before having to add a drop of oil.

My Wal-Mart's ST bottles are Graham Packaging bottles ("G" stamp on the bottom) shaped exactly like Sopus bottles. Would Graham be selling a bottle it designed for SOPUS to someone else as well? Doesn't make sense.

I was at my local walmart in Texas this weekend and their supertech oils here were still WPP products. They had full stock of 5w20 and even had quart bottles of 15w40 and their synthetic and High Mileage oils. All with WPP numbers on the package.

All the supertech oils i've ever heard of were WPP, Exxon, or Sopus products. Any of them should be fine for auto rx or even regular use.

I dont doubt though that in some cases when they have problems with transportation, suppliers, etc that they may use sopus, exxon, or whatever. The WalMarts here use QuakerState as their featured oil in their quick lube so they obviously have a contract of some kind with Shell.

This "Who makes Super Tech conventional?" question comes up about 3 times a month and I think the most common answer is still the correct one based as based the Walmart MSDS file.

ExxonMobil has limited regional distribution supplied from the New Jersey lube plant to limited regions in the East.

Super Tech from the Specialty Oil Division of Pennz/QS has limited distribution in some of the Gulf Coast states.

And, of course, WPP supplies nationally from the Omaha/Council Bluffs location.
