Is anyone surprised about Tua Tagovailoa

And another concussion. He is a lot smarter than the Dolphins getting 300 million guaranteed..lol
I think the problem is if he retires he doesn't get any of it. He has been the meal ticket for his family for some time now and I'm sure the pressure is weighing on him. Concussions become easier to receive the more often you have them and the damage becomes progressively worse every time.

Meal ticket won't be there if he's brain dead. But he can always be a coach

I feel for Tua but he should know how to slide. Hamlin's hit was legal (and ironic because Hamlin actually did die for awhile on a football field but was resuscitated). Concussions are nothing to fool with and I think this is Tua's fifth one (1 at Alabama and 4 with the Dolphins. He does have some guaranteed money so is probably financially fine.

Look what was learned from Mike Webster's brain when examined by the pathologist at University of Pittsburgh: this was the first mention of CTE (Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy). Webster was a great center on Super Bowl winning Steeler teams hiking the ball to Bradshaw and calling out the blocking assignments but died of chronic hits to the head. All the current players are aware of all this. These hits to the head are a lot more than "getting his bell rung". The NFL is very worried that they are going to have a death from brain injury on the field.

I gave up the woke NFL, but can't help but see the news. The Dolphins paying Tua is WAY smarter than the Browns paying a quarter Billlion and high draft picks for DeShawn Watson. Watson facing even more charges in Houston soon.
Yep. Bet Mayfield doesn’t miss the Clowns, errr the “BROWNS”

Why would he retire?
He can ride the pine for a long time.
Eventually they will make him an offer.
The concussions. They're easier to get the more often you receive them. This has an impact on how he plays, the plays which are called etc. If you're getting concussions all the time you're not worth anything being on the field. If you can't play, you're not worth anything and they cut you. I can almost guarantee his contract is written so that there's no guarantee if he's medically unable to play.

Players know about CTE. I'm sure the doctors are telling him what's in store for him in 20 yrs.

Stopped watching the nfl years ago when It went down the drain. Same with nascar and now they're coming out with electric race cars which is awful. If I wanted to listen to blenders run I'd do so for free in my kitchen. Watching the charger inserting guy in the pit stop be as fast as possible while the rest of the crew just slowly meander towards the car to change the tires because of all the time they'll have in waiting for it to charge will be funny to watch though.

All these players think in terms of generational wealth.
I've never heard a pro sports player talk about passing money down to his children. They usually want their kids to become pro sports players and make their own money. Priority for the money they do make is for themselves, family members (who would often be very poor without it), and their own retirement.

I'm just shocked that in a game where heavily built men stop each other with brute force, injuries, concussions and brain damage might occur.

My heart bleeds. Those poor, poor guys forced to do this and only make millions to hundred of millions per year.

I liked the NFL I grew up watching where you weren't down until your knees touched, so guys would drag others along. And no forward progress stupidity-- if they knocked you back ten yards, THAT was where you were down.

Trying to implement rules to make a contact, tackle sport safe is like setting rules for meth use and telling yourself it's safe. Sorry.

I'm a Pittsburgher, born and raised and a lifelong Steelers fan. Mike Webster's story absolutely broke my heart. I really feel so awful for the players of the 70s and 80s who had no idea about the damage they were sustaining to their brains.

But the players of today know the risks. Not to mention they are financially compensated more than ever before.

But then stuff like Aaron Hernandez, and likely Antonio Brown, still make it hard for me to feel good about supporting the NFL.

I really hope Tua has the sense to hang it up.

Yes, I get it.
Riding the pine means sitting on the bench...probably on the PUP list.

First post said $300m guaranteed.
That should be no matter what.

Sitting on the bench not playing would get him some kind of offer.

Andrew Luck retired and kept everything...including signing bonus.
But I think most of that was kindness by the Colts and hope he would come back.

All these players think in terms of generational wealth. They want to become a modern day version of Carnegie, Rockefeller, Vanderbilt.

Not all of them think in terms of generational wealth.

Very hard to plan for the future when many NFL players have an education of a 10th grader.

Sad but true.
