Is $600 reasonable for this work?

I made a thread the other day about my buddy's 01 Civic that needed a CV axle. He went to the shop today and they showed him the damaged passenger axle on the lift. The other axle was leaking grease, and the lower ball joints had play as well (original with 210K miles). He decided to have everything replaced for peace of mind and paid $600. The breakdown:

- $210 for both CV axles (new, not reman'd)
- $70 for both lower ball joints
- $300 labor (3 hrs)
- $18 taxes & fees

They used aftermarket parts but he doesn't know which. Did he pay a fair price?

Sounds good and a good combo of surgeries so they aren't wrecking old ball joints to get the axle in.

Cheaper than what I paid a while ago for remanufactured drive-shafts, new control arms and an alignment. I wasn't too keen on doing the work myself anyway, considering what I call a design flaw with my car where the transmission has to be lifted up a few millimeters because it blocks a control arm bolt.

I say he got a good deal. I just had an axle shaft replaced in my 92 cavalier and I paid $67 for a new axle shaft and $50 to have it installed. I bought the axle shaft myself so the price I quoted is what I paid for it. No other work was performed.
