Is 5w30 OK for new mower?

How does your mower run smoother on 10w30? I used to let my oil changes play mind games on me.

Bought new Troy Bilt B&S 6.25 (maybe 6.5?) in 2004, ran the factory oil in it all summer (small yard) and changed to 5W-30 synthetic. Consumed an alarming amount next spring, so switched it to M1 15W-50. It leveled off, so I stuck with that.

My neighbor pays to have his lawn cut. Whatever company he hired uses teenagers to cut grass over the summer. I spoke to the owner of the lawn service. He bought Yardwork lawnmowers from Canadian Tire. Briggs exi. They put on lots of hours all summer. He runs Mobil 1 5W30. He said there has been no issues. I thought this was interesting. These engines are not commercial grade and running thin oil. No issues at all.
