I've owned the iPod Video for the last 6 months or so. Honestly, there are better players out there. The only reason I got it is because it offered more seamless integration with my car's audio system. And the iTunes software that you are forced to use with it is major bloatware and resource hogger. I don't know, maybe it works better in Mac environment, but on a PC it sucks.
The iPhone looks good. I would like to see how that user interface works. But I will probably wait some time before I get one (if ever), to let them work out all the bugs and release the next OS version. Feature-wise, the iPhone isn't all that innovative. Many smartphones out there have been offering it for quite some time.
Regardless if this iPhone thing will be good or not it is expensive-that is for sure. About $600.00 for it and you may pay as much as $1200.00 in yearly fees. I will keep my old telephones thank you very much.
Plus there are already various gizmos in existence that cost less and can pretty much do all the same things.
I have heard of quality control concerns, problems with the glass being damaged easily, and also that some investment firms are telling businesses not to buy it. The story (if true) is that there is no firewall and any information you have on it cannot be encrypted in case the iPhone is stolen.
But what do I know. I have never owned a cell phone. I hate telephone calls when I am driving down the highway. And I hate telephone calls when I am supposed to be on vacation. To me a cell phone is only useful in an emergency.
If it can combine the featuers of the phone, iPod and Palm pilot in one sleek design and user interface, we may very well pick one up early next year. Too bad it only holds 8 gigs, though. Maybe by next year they can bump that up.
1. 1st generation.
2. 2-4 gigs. Will increase..no doubt.
3. $600? Remember when the Razr phone came out? $500. Now you can get them for $50!
4. Can't change the battery? Like the IPODs, in general.
5. 2 year contract?
6. Glass screen?
This one is gonna be good. I give the data network two weeks before it crashes. AT&T is gonna get pwned big time. You think they're ready to manage the network they just bought from BellSouth/Cingular? It took AT&T years to get their CDPD network running smoothly, just in time for it to be obsolete. And that was with only two devices on the market and text-only traffic. Now people want to stream video and tether to their laptops and d/l music from iTunes. Think about it.
$600 for a 2.5G phone and a struggling data network. Good luck with that, Stevie J!!!
Does anybody make a plain old phone with voice mail and a contact list? Call me old fashioned but how many of us actually use ALL the features on the phones we own now? I know I don't.
Well, I use mine to check email, instant messenger, browse the web (although it's pretty painful on my current phone). I also use it for car navigation (via external bluetooth GPS).
i use most of the features of my razr, i just wish it could have more storage space.
i love the idea of an iphone, but its too costly (like everything else apple makes) and the yearly fees are way too high. but really all cellular carriers charge way too much in moneylt or learly fees.
the cheapest account you can get on cingular costs $49 after fees, and a 2 year contract.
