Genuine question not looking for a bash fest or that.
I currently own a Samsung s24+ it's a decent phone but I feel like it has short comings. Sometimes camera focus is slow. The screen sometimes is unresponsive and battery life is average.
I watch reviewers that say the iPhone is more reliable and stable and has better battery life. Is it worth it to go iPhone even though somethings are more restricted and less customizable? I haven't had one in awhile but I remember some web pages like Mitchell 1 pro demand didnt work well at all on safari. Also the iPhone doesn't allow for certain apps like alfa OBD. What's a guy to do? There aren't many android flagship options anymore in the states. We are with T-Mobile so the options are Samsung, pixel or apple pretty much. I wish there were more options but here we are. What is your honest thoughts?

I hate Apple, I really do. But, I use an iPhone all day every day and I recently purchased my mother an iPhone as well.

Android is great. It really is. But iOS is just better for a personal phone. Where Android shines is other types of devices. It's awesome for developers that want to make cool stuff with it and use it in interesting ways. But if you just want a phone that works, gets good battery life, and don't need any Android-specific apps, I'd recommend it.

I used to use samsung but they just age poorly software wise and i blame samsung for perverting the software. I remember reading about the s23 or the s24 out of the box take up almost 60gb whereas the pixel android os takes up almost a fourth of that. What is samsung ramrodding into android to fatten it that much? probably why it runs like garbage after just 1 year. I have a google pixel now and it is like the iphone i had before in terms of software experience and i have the old 6 with the 9 releasing later this year and i still won't be upgrading, the 6 is too good. The battery life has gotten noticeably better over time not worse like when i had my samsung. Cameras are great too I've never complained.

I prefer buying a Pixel directly from Google. My Pixel 6 is hasn't lost a beat in over 3 yrs.
Same i too have the old 6 though I got it through verizon but at least it didn't come with all the verizon garbage the samsungs I got before had, junk games and other junk apps would auto install it was ridiculous. And my battery life has improved over the years which makes little sense to me. Though i never fast charge and almost always charge during the day when I'm not using and leave it alone at night unless I need to wake up to a full charge.

If you're a tech geek and like toying with your gadgets then android is for you. If you just want it to work without fuss then stick with Apple.
IMO.

I hated Apple for a long time, mainly for the high price and tiny screens. I actually used BOTH my personal at the time android phone and work provided Apple early model phone. I hated the Apple work phone with its small screen. Most of the day I chose to use my Android phone except work phone calls.

Then came along the iPhone X (ten) and ever since then I was hooked. After that got my wife an iPhone 11, after that two Mac mini desktops and a MacBook Air, also since then we both bought new iPhone 13s AND two Apple Watches,

I guess you get the point. Been computing since 1995 with Windows, Cell phones since 2002 and now nothing but Apple products for one reason, they do what I need them to do and I truly, honestly have not had one fail or crash or get infected with some rouge software.

Some in here call me a fanboy, well yeah, sure ok. I dont see how, geez... iPhone is a nice clean interface, everything works and none of that preloaded bloatware like android phones.
Never had one fail, I can drop it in 18 feet of water and it wont leak. (but I am not going to try that)
I do feel we are at the saturation point for a while. Not sure where all cell phones go from here. I suspect a few years, AI will make a strong debut right now it will just be bits and pieces. I love electronics, but I am getting bored, I cant think of anything more to do with them that makes my life more easy at this point. Heck I got SIX apps on my iPhone that controls things in my house even. Garage Door, Dead bolt locks, Thermostat, Doorbell Cam, Alarm System, and another video camera app.

For fun, maybe in another year I will go for my first iPhone Pro, its not needed, not at all but I am bored with all things cell phones *LOL*
Anyway, kind of funny, I read up on this today and actually book marked it. But the bottom line, a standard iPhone does everything as well, the rest is luxury for those who may use it. I might pick it just for the look, feel and color choice *LOL*
Hey and I support an American company in the same price range as the other one.

Oops, there is ONE thing that I consider a big plus to upgrade, especially those who go off the beaten path and possibly even in my boat offshore. If you ever get into trouble and there is no cell signal. Starting with the iPhone 14 if you have no cell coverage in an emergency the cell phone can send your position and distress using satellites to emergency responders. That is pretty big and there is a tremendous amount of documented reports (doing a web search) of saved lives because if it.
Also their "Health App" combined with an Apple Watch is amazing, including ECG recording.

Is price really any different anymore? When I look a decent name brand Android phone is about the same price a comparable Apple phone. To me it comes down to what you prefer. I myself have been using an iphone 11 that I bought for around $700 5 years ago. I haven't decided on if I will upgrade this cycle or not yet, but $100-120 a year for a phone that has had no trouble isn't bad.

You might want to go through your settings again to rectify the battery life issue. I use an S23+ and get two days out of the battery. I doubt that any phone can do better than that.
I have no "bloatware" to my knowledge, since if it is there, I either have deleted it long ago, or it's just not intrusive in any way. Of course, Google will ALWAYS feed you pop up ads, much like most websites, but there isn't much anyone can do about that . Even Apple is subject to those, Safari browser and all.
All updates seem to be coming along every month (from Verizon & Samsung) so it's been a solid phone for me.
Be sure to check "About Phone" under "software" (NOT software update) to make sure you have the latest Play Store update installed. Those can take a long time to update automatically for some reason.
I've been a Samsung user since the S10 came out, and won't change to any other brand.

Android's advantage is the variety of phones and manufactures to choose from. Sub $100. to $1000+. There isn't a cheap iPhone. The high-end Android and iPhone's are very similar in capability.

Have you used, or owned an iPad, which even many Android users choose as their tablets?

That's pretty much the same UX you'll get from an iPhone.

And have you ever used one of those Androids that some (typically pre-paid) carriers offer brand new ? They're absolute garbage. In that regard, Apple just won't tarnish their reputation with junk like that. A new Samsung Galaxy costs just as much as a new iPhone.

Those are pretty much the best you can get. Who else makes quality Androids, LG ? We use Verizon and filtering their current phones by Android, they have Pixels, Samsung, then Kyocera (???) and TCL (???).

There's a whole lot of quality phone brands we just don't get them in the states. One plus, oppo, Huawei, vivo, shaumi or however it's spelled. Several brands.....

@Orangepeel
You are correct and I think the world standard at this point is Xiaomi 14 Ultra.

After doing a search, reading reviews, including from digital photography sites, this phone might be a contender, even though I’m in the Apple world. I’m bored with cell phones in general and this one really seems to cut above them all.

When you have an independent OS that isn't certified on each phone, it will tend to end up with every feature being available but not all of them should have. Apple tends to limit OS on older phones so they still feel relatively responsive and not just barely run. Andoid does no such thing and phone makers don't usually spend the effort tweaking each release for its own to keep them responsive. That's pretty much what happens. Also Korean software engineers are not as well paid as their semiconductor engineers unlike the US, so their talent pool from undergraduates and above tend to not be better than the US, and that sort of leads to worse software releases / tuning in their integrated products. (Japan is even worse).

Well, that's all some folks can afford. And yes, I have had low end Android phones and actually have one now for a second line. It works just fine for me and cost 1/10 what an iPhone 15 does. I only need a phone to make calls, text and surf. Just about any phone can handle that.
