Anyone Excited about iPhone 17

What colour did you get?
Orange, it is pretty bright but should be easy to find :) The young guy that helped at the Verizon store told me my IPhone e 14 pro max was still worth a fair amount and to check Back Market if I was interested in selling it..I checked Back Market and they offered me $397 for it...seems like a great offer to me..I even told them my battery was at 77% and they said that battery condition did not affect the offer.

I like orange, though I am kind of an out of the box guy. *LOL* I always found the pro models colors too muted.

Im not in the market, purchased new iPhone 15 plus in March direct from Apple. I love the bigger screen. I have checked out the new offerings in Costco.
I dont know if I will ever purchase another iPhone again if Apple does not offer a big screen in something other than the ProMax.
If I dont think they will I might even get rid of my iPhone 15 plus to trade for a 16plus next year in case they dont offer it again in the upcoming 18 or 19 models. I cant believe they cancelled it for the 17 model year. I guess it wasnt that popular. I never wanted one until I just bought one!> Just my thoughts. I waited forever to by something with a bigger screen out of fear it would be too big, well its not and I dont know if I can ever go back. Then again, I dont know where I would go, Pixel does not offer anything either in a larger screen except for their Pro XL. Anything close would be a Samsung 25+ for less than $1000 which is fine but I am really in Apples world now.
Oh well, I have a few years to figure it out, not like they are gong to make something just for me.

I was excited about replacing a iPhone 14 Pro. However I loaded iOS 26 which works really well on my existing phone and it felt “new” to me. My battery health is 76% so when that nears 70% I will replace with iPhone 17 or 18 pro version.

It seems to me that the raised camera area would catch on your pocket. I carry my phone in my back pocket and could see that catching and causing a drop.

I'm in the same boat with my 14PM with iOS 26. I think I will just have the battery replaced with a genuine Apple battery and wait and see if the 18PM peaks my interest enough to upgrade. Plus I'm hoping they bring back black for the 18.

Before the 14PM I had a X, when I upgraded to the 14PM the difference was so big I told myself I wouldn't wait 4 years to upgrade next time yet here we are...

Anyone been looking at the UpPhone? Can be configured to run like either an iPhone or Google type phone or a combination of both if you prefer select features of each. Battery disconnect switch, built in VPN, etc...

Has me interested but Verizon is the one carrier that doesn't support it & is the only carrier that has reception (just barely) in my neighborhood.

Neat sounding phone for those who feel it will help them in some way or those (even like me) who use privacy tools.
It seems like a package that runs Android apps with some kind of layer for protection and software/firmware for the rest. It does not use the play store.
AS a phone it wouldnt be for me, I dont think I would trust it *LOL*, it's not water resistant either.

IN a country, even this forum, most Americans could care less about privacy. I dont know anyone in my family circle and very few in here who even take the time like I do to routinely review privacy controls to limit as much as feasible my data to others on the phone and apps I use.

Anyway, niche product and that is cool but the average American isnt going to buy this phone, get phone service and then have to subscribe for an additional $130 a year or $13.00 a month to the company for the security services it so proudly touts. . There is a free basic plan but is severely curtails what this phone does in the way it is marketed/ I posted these prices and now I cant find them again on the website. You really have to fish around to find out which isnt very impressive and kind of sneaky.

Found the monthly subscription price. It wasnt easy.

I am sure maybe there is a market for it but I wonder who would be policing its security with so few users? At least with the big guys we hear about major security issues because so many people use the devices, even in the computing and data world.
.... and I am not impressed on how they bury the subscritpion plans, it questions their integrity in my mind.

These have been the government issued cell phones for select high security positions for a couple years now. The previous model was too bulky/clunky. They seem to have streamlined this one quite a bit.

Figured I’d post it in here for those that were interested in another option at a similar price to an iPhone. If I remember correctly, the company founder was one of the head guys at apple for the iPhone development.

I did a quick search. Phones high ranking officials use. There are a number of products like you mention though I couldnt find that brand. I wasnt surprised to learn that many of the highest ranking officials use everyday brands running Android and iPhones/ However these are specially hardened phones maybe like what you posted. I just havent found that brand.
Donald Trump has an iPhone, Obama used a Blackberry, Biden an iPhone. It almost sounds like anything that a particular countries security agency modifies.
Here are some billionaires choices. I actually found your post interesting. What bothers me is that phone you mention kind of hides that you have to pay $130 a year to have it do what it does which is no big deal to someone who needs it, and if it does what it does.

Buddy keeps calling me back as he can't keep a connection on his AT&T turd IPhone 17...

I'll keep running my 13 pro max until it's dead or when they no longer support software updates. Since I'm semi retired now I'm trying not to buy the latest shiny new things just because. Put a new Apple Store battery in it about 6 months ago so it's still running fine.

My wife's XS max was at 90% after 3 years. Don't know why. I had gotten the Xs (smaller battery) and it was around 70% after 3 years. both had the optimize etc. on. I did and do often have mine charging in the car, and she, doesn't. Her way is smarter. I use my phone for on call and so I'm that risk averse human, get nervous when it's "only" 35% charged....with new cars having charging pads I would think more and more people constantly charge their phones in the car
QC must've accidentally let a good battery into the phone :ROFLMAO:

We are an Apple house, we have 3 MacBooks, 4 iPads, 4 iPhones, 4 Watches plus AirPods to match. I haven't watched the event, just looked over the website. I am going to try to watch it this week to understand more. However, I'm expecting a new MacBreak Weekly in my podcast feed today and a new iOS Today on Friday to get deep dives into the new models.

I agree evolutionary.

I like the idea of the Air and the fact that it's not crazy priced (comparatively). I assume they're getting on board with computation photography like Google has been doing with the Pixel for a few years. One thing I'm curious about is that's a thin phone with a big bump, how does that bump feel.

The 17 Pro looks nice, once again big focus on camera updates. Very evolutionary.

The 17 looks nice, good entry model. Very evolutionary.

AirPods Pro 3 with heart rate and translation. I feel like they're going for the people that don't want a watch dinging on their wrist or have conventional watches that they love with heart rate add on. The translation would be cool if I was in a situation where I needed that regularly. Not a reason for me to buy them, but I'd have them delivered on day 1 if it was. I like that they'll come with 5 ear tips. Makes me wonder if I can use those tips on my AirPods Pro 2.

Watch continues with the health market. Nice to see hypertension notifications. SatCom for the Ultra is good, given it's intended market. Nice to see the SE get always on, too bad for my daughters who got a SE2 the other month lol

Do I want a 17 Pro Max? Yes, new phones are fun. Am I getting one? No.

My 13 Pro Max is going to get another year. My battery is currently registering 87% and everything is running nice. My wife's 13 Pro Max's battery dipped below 80% so we got her a new battery last month at an Apple Store for $89 installed in just a couple hours. When my battery craps out, I'll do the same. I have different charging habits than she does.

We got them brand new on day 1, so we're 4 years in with a year or two left before we update. Especially good considering that I don't put my phone in a case unless I'm going to the race track or theme park. Shoot, I dropped my phone in the shop at work the other year and I flipped on the deburring wheel and took the marks out of the corner. These phones are a lot tougher than most people give them credit for.

I'm holding out for a folding iPhone. There are plenty of times where I want more than my phone and less than my iPad, but I don't want to buy an iPad Mini.
Same, but so far only one has the 17 whilst the rest of us 15/16’s …
I still carry a 13 overseas bcs it still has a SIM door great for cell companies in various countries …

I'll probably buy an unlocked iPhone 17 Pro soon. It seems like a very capable communication tool.

I've been thinking about this as this has changed my plans.

I'm going to wait 3-6 months for the price to drop on the 16PM when everyone is dumping them and pick up a mint one, then I'll look at a 18PM or 19PM(or whatever they will be called) and upgrade then.

I'll probably pick up a set of Airpod pro 3's however.
So oddly I didn't upgrade my Airpods yet as I've yet to see them in stock at my local Costco but I did change my mind and ordered a 17PM a week ago. I wasn't happy they didn't offer a black version and was going to wait a year for the 18PM but starting seeing rumours they probably wont offer black next year either so I just went ahead and ordered the "Deep Blue" version. Also as expected lots of company's started making covers for the "camera plateau" which is the only part that really shows through the case anyways and mine is in a quadlock case 27/7/365 so not a big deal.

I don't know about you guys but I absolutely love new phone day!

Sorry about the poor lighting(and poor quality pics in general), I'm working out of my truck as a office today.

I pealed off the screen protective cover and immediately installed a Spigen screen protector.

In the Quadlock case.

Not a fan of the blue showing in the area around the camera. I picked up a few stick on covers, one all black, one carbon fiber style but I;m digging this black camo one.

Turned it on and it sensed my "old" phone and asked if I wanted to set up the new one from the old one, clicked yes and then asked if I wanted to do a software update which I clicked yes. Its doing the update now, says about 10min to go. Then we'll see how well the auto setup worked and if I have to do things like prompt it to download all my music and videos, podcasts, etc onto the phone or if I will have to manually do that.

Edit: After the update it asked if I wanted to setup the new phone from iclould which would take 15 minutes but I would later have to download my data from iclould. or if I wanted to transfer the data over the air "phone to phone" which would have all on my data on the new phone but take 2 hours, I chose the "over the air" option. After about 10min it now says "About 1 hour" left. If this works I must say they sure make this process easy these days!

Also just to add, you cannot use the phones during the transfer process.

I recently upgraded my iphone 11 to a 15pro. (very similar in size) I won't be getting a 17 but they do look like an improvement in cooling battery by design. 15-16 iphones have a very hot battery.
