My iPhone 6 has been acting goofy lately. I won't charge in the car. I've tried different chargers and have tried in three different cars. It charges perfectly fine with a wall charger. Anyone know what could be wrong? Maybe something in the settings got thrown off?

Thanks in advance!

Why not go to the phone store and talk to one of the pretty ladies that work there about it.

I've never seen settings that affect car charging...really weird.

Are you using the cigarette lighter port or the built in usb port in your car?

Apple cables or aftermarket?

Cigarette lighter port. Has worked perfectly up until a few weeks ago. I've tried the Apple charger and the Target one I have as well.

did you try using OTHER gadgets on the same cig lighter port? do they work?

I know you probably know this but some cars will not charge accessories with the engine off, or even key on/engine off on some cars.

Our Sienna will not power any accessories with the key off, however my Focus is the opposite and will power accessories with the key off. I think it stops after 15 minutes or so to save the car battery.

He said it was working fine before, though... So i guess he knows when and when it does not power the cig light port.

What I am wondering is, is the fuse blown, is the cig lighter port working at all?

OP tried the same phone and charger and cable on OTHER cars (so we know it's not the cable or the USB adapters he uses), but did he try OTHER DEVICES on the SAME car/cig lighter in which the charging doesn't take place? (IOW, did he rule out that it's not the cig lighter port itself?)

Funny as I actually haven't tried the obvious,as to plug in a different piece of equipment into the cigarette lighters to see if those recieve power. I guess the fact that it's on three completely unrelated vehicles (my work truck that's a brand new 2015,my car,and my gf's car) and happened at the very same time, just never seemed to make sense to me. Guess it's possible and could be a crazy coincidence?

I had a new style iPhone connector go bad on one gold pad and not work. Cable damage and/or orientation may come into play.

The same happens in my car as well but mine is sparatic. It's only random days that it happens so I assume it is the vehicle not the phone. Yours sounds more like your phone not the vehicles.

Why would it be the phone if it charges in the wall charger? Either bad cable or car charger.

Not necessarily a coincidence- a bad cigar lighter device could have popped the fuse in all your vehicles. ;-)

I just want to clarify what you're using:

1. OEM cable, aftermarket charger (USB out)

2. OEM car charger (entirely)

3. Aftermarket, OEM-style everything

4. Other

I've got a 6 Plus and haven't had any issue charging with the OEM cable and a no-name car charger

I've had cheap AM cables go bad, but never anything that's reputed, and well made.

So... OP: Are you plugging something else into the suspect cig lighter port ??

Nope, only thing I've ever used are phone chargers.

My experience with phones that behave this way (charge OK sometimes and others not, work on one charger, then stop, etc) is almost always that the charging port on the phone has some damage, bent pins, etc. This damage tends to dame the charging cables as well, which further damages the port. The problem will likely get worse and the phone will become more and more problematic to charge. have hadthis happen on three different phones.
