I called them a year ago and did exactly that and they lowered my bill $30 a month for a year. Going to do it again next month.

While I enjoy some of the channels and do watch them for races (indycar and NHRA) and some shows I'm getting very tired of spending AFTER the discount $600 a year for stinking TV. And I don't even have HD or recorders, just 14 year old boxes.

Thanks, glad to know the cancellation threat has a shot at working. Be it satellite or cable it's still expensive. Time Warner here is a running joke which is why I fired them a long time ago. I do have HD on one receiver/TV but no DVR. They wanted $200 for an HD DVR plus there is an additional monthly fee AND a two year contract! No thanks.

Roadrunner "lite" 128/756k $30/mo. Youtube works at 360p or higher res if you let it cache up.

Magicjack is getting worse, they dropped my hometown's independent phone company. You can't call "everywhere" anymore. I would not prepay for five years! They make a good compliment to a prepaid cell plan.

phone: ooma VoIP just pay $2something/month taxes
internet: RCN cable
cable: RCN

when I got my ooma box, I told RCN to cancel my phone and cable, I just wanted internet. they hate the 'cancel' word, so they cut me a deal where keeping cable was only $7/mo more than just internet.

IIRC my RCN bill is $60, not really sure.

The taxes and fees take a big chunk, but the line is $16 and the internet is around $20.

What are others paying?

We refuse to pay to watch TV (cable), and even if we did go for one of these FIOS things, Im guessing the $15 in taxes would still be there (they always give a teaser price not including taxes and fees).

How do others deal with this? Since we cannot cheaply tether our iphones, we are stuck there. Do some buy DSL without the phone line? Im tempted to put our home line as an additional line on our cellphone plan for $9.99 and get rid of the land line service, just use it for DSL. Do others do this?

The cost of connectivity is really getting ridiculous, though the cost of the infrastructure is likely far less costly then it was years ago, and the capital cost has probably gone down...

Thanks!

My internet is $45/month. We mainly use cell phones or GTalk through GMail if I am home. We also have a MajicJack but it's a POS.

However, my unlce lives in a rural area. There is no DSL or cable available for his location, the cell coverage is poor and there is no 3G capability. The only way for him to get internet is either dial-up (means living in ancient history) or getting some sort of satellite internet. Hughes is expensive and they have draconian restrictions so he lives without internet.

No landline phone here either. Don't like AT&T.....

I have cable internet through Cableone.....pretty reliable for the most part though not as cheap as some pay.
Television is through DirecTV....wife pays that.

We have Verizon cell phones which cost us an arm and a leg for some reason. Wife has the Droid and all the extra services as she needs it in her work. Mine is basic which I plan to do away with and go with Straight Talk at Walmart. Lot cheaper than what Verizon wants.
All in all, I agree with the post about not bundling all your services with one supplier and I also feel that with everyone going to some form of wireless communication, be it phone and internet...the prices for service will continue to go up.

Also using Ooma here with great success (switched from Packet8 who had customer service issues the one time I needed help) on AT&T 'dry loop' 3k/512 Mbps DSL for $15/month.

Internet speed is fine for Netflix streaming, YouTube videos, Hulu Plus, etc...

I have a AT&T DSL only service for $35 a month for 3.0 mbps. They keep threating to increase my price if I dont bundle, but it never happens. I dropped my land line a year or so ago. My cell is the 3rd phone on my GF's acct and only cost $22 a month with taxes on that line. Seriously considering dropping cable. Just not much on it that interests me these days. and the few that do are available online.

Did that for a while, but once in a while there'll be interference storms that [censored] my wife off so much, that it is not worth saving $25 a month.

Ohh man so true, how everything is relative. I would think I was stealing if I had a phone line and internet for $50 a month.

$83 per month for Verizon local phone and FIOS Internet service. No cell phones, TV by antenna, and we use a prepaid card for long distance. I think the Internet is about $55 before tax. As I understand it, you must have phone service to be eligible for the Internet connection.

The house was wired for the fiber optic mess when we moved in, so we did not have the option of cheaper DSL. A bonus feature of the FIOS is that when your power goes out for six days, your phone service goes with it. It is limited to a few hours on a battery backup. When I have power, Verizon is constantly calling to try selling me TV service.

We moved from an AT&T area, where we paid $62/month for local phone and DSL.

We have Time Warner Cable, with 2-DVRs (one in living room, mom wants one in her room), Road Runner Turbo (15d/1u), and VoIP Home Phone. iirc the bill is something like $190 a month.

Just dropped my landline to the "low use" variant, because we do seldomly use it. Its hardly worth it.

VZ couldnt do better than our $12.99 for 768k dsl.

Problem is, though we are now saving a few $$$ on the phone, I doubt that it would be much cheaper to port the landline to a cell and buy comcast spartan cable internet.

Earthlink has $12.95 768k dsl for three months, problem is that it then goes to $35/MONTH!!!!!!!

Well worth it considering 25 mps down and 4+ mbs up.

That's pretty good. Out here Comcast charges about the same for 12 Mbps down and 2 Mbps up.

Well they are upgrading here to the next level. They promise much less than what we are getting.

Unreal getting more than you expect.

Especially from Comcrap!

As I have said before. Comcast has been more than excellent when I have called. If you have a service interruption they are there within a couple hours. Even for ONE Customer.
