Wish there was a way around it, besides the old, dont use it bit...

Im on the verge though... Ridiculous pricing.

Think what people would have if they saved that $80-100/month for 30 or 40 years!

I think you may have found out why the middle class is shrinking.

I should have done it 3 years ago, too busy and end up paying $20 a month for basic cable for 3 years already. I better find time or else I'm wasting $240 / year for the rest of my life.

Best $40 I spent was on an antenna I put in the attic. 22 channels for free. It's good enough. I'd rather spend time (money) with my family or on other hobbies.

I have Suddenlink cable @ $14.99 a month.

too bad you can't steal cable tv anymore! back in the dealiyo, peeps used to say "pay for cable tv, you get the broadband free over the cable line" I think that used to work until cable tv went digital. anything like that works still? also, people who use wep wi-fi, nuff said.

IDK, I only have digital cable in my living room. Modem and router are in the office, which is not digital, never thought to try. Too bad I am an upstanding, dumbdip citizen willing to pay for what I use.

The previous poster makes me furious.

YOU DO KNOW that when you STEAL YOUR service, the honest paying customer ends up paying for it along with his own.
Stealing cable products is a FELONY! If you get caught you can go to jail!

I have Charter basic internet (1 MB down and 128 kb up) for 20$ and most importantly no contract and NO extra fees or any taxes of any kind the total price is actualy 20$.

Explain how. This is the same argument the music business uses. Suppose, someone steals the cable but won't purchase it irregardless if it were impossible to steal it. How is it the business loses monetary value?

I remember at a ripe age of 22 being naive and simply plugging in the cable in my recently purchased home and getting television with a bunch of channels. I thought there was an antenna in the attic.

This continued for 3 years until I got high speed internet from the cable provider and realized how expensive the cable was.

Here in central Tx, I use AT&T. Internet is ADSL Pro (1.5 - 3Mbps down; 384-512Kbps up). Actual: 2.6Mbps down; 430Kbps up via speedtest. Cost? $14.95/mo + internet taxes of .83 = $15.78/mo.

Landline phone (no extras): $17.03/mo + taxes of $8.95/mo = $25.98/mo. (Note the 53% tax/fee/surcharge rate. I've heard there is a way to get this substantially reduced, or eliminated, but not sure of the proper language to use.) For long distance I use a card (2.7 cents/min). No cell phone....yet. I periodically call up ATT, ask for the customer retention dept. and ask for the best deal. They have more leeway than the "front-line" people. If I encounter someone who is rude, I call back. Little chance of getting the same person twice-in-a-row. It's a game. If you learn how to play it and ask a LOT of questions, (without yelling), you can usually get a better deal.

Used to not be able to get ADSL without phone service. Now you can.

No satellite or cable service....ever. Always used an antenna. I pick up around 10 stations. Mostly watch DVD's from the local library = Free.

Ask if Verizon has a 'customer retention dept' or 'tier 2 customer service' or whatever their lingo is. With ATT, I used to call them 6 times before someone on the front-line would give me a better deal. The CRD bypasses all of that....but the front-line people never told me about that dept! Why? Because they're on commission.

Charter 1 MB broadband = $19.95 / month

MagicJack = $1.22 / month

DirecTV = $45 / month [when it goes up to $75 / month in one year, I plan to cancel it and go to Charter HD TV.

You can opt-out of that DirecTV contract after one year - with no monetary penalties?

The two year contract I signed in 2009 would not allow me that option. Maybe things have changed in the past two years.

Well I just upgraded my internet with Cableone for the same money a month....only for a year it's 5 bucks a month cheaper.

Where as I was getting 5MB download, less than 1mb upload....I am now getting up to 50MB download with 2.5MB upload.

Most time I average around 45Mb download.....even through the wireless on the new modem.

I signed a 2 yr contract with DirecTV. If I quit it anytime before 2 yrs, They charge me $20 a month until it expires, so I might as well stick with it for another year.
