How expensive is dependent on the price of oil . If crude gets pricy enough the process will be used . Shale oil is expensive if crude is below eighty bucks but right now it's a winner .

I've been hearing that same thing for 30 years about us "saving" our oil. I believed it 30 years ago but know better now. It's far more sinister than that.
Their policies only SEEM crazy until you realize that the goal is to chop the U.S. down to just another also ran economically and put China in the global drivers seat since they already have a more "suitable" form of government.
Our politicians may be stupid and act crazy but those that buy them and control them aren't. Three of our presidents from BOTH parties have given speeches over and over again over the last 25 years and even before that on the virtues of "globalism" which originally was referred to as "The New World Order". Two have said the U.S. needs to lower it's standard of living so other countries can raise theirs.
What you're seeing is those statements coming to fruition and the people in this country letting it happen. We'll be living like they do in Europe very soon and a lot of us will be living like they do in Mexico City.
The best way to shut us down is cut off our energy supplies and that is what they are doing with a few good lies thrown in to get us to think we actually need to.
This country has as much oil as Saudi Arabia and limitless supplies of coal and natural gas. There never has been an energy crisis in the U.S.
