InTech 5.4 32V engine- low oil light came on at high speed, think a bearing may have spun?

No offense taken. Maybe I am on to something.... or maybe I am a hoarder (my Wife would suggest I am a hoarder when it comes to cars and car parts).

Well...you have shared pictures of your oil stash so she might be on to something. :p

Any updates on the Lincoln?
RR,

Not so good. Mechanic reached out twice for money, saying he was having money issues. I sent him full payment in advance for the job. I didn't hear from him until yesterday. he stated he was out ill for a week or so. He then said he "broke the motor down and it has been on fire and I am looking as to how deep". He then texted " as long as the rings are ok we are still good", and finally texted "I think it was just the coil packs on the one side". And then he attached the following pictures.

I am not confident I will see this vehicle again- hope I am wrong but managing expectations. I did a visual inspection on the motor and the entire vehicle prior to purchasing the engine and did not see any sign of any fire, etc.

D60,

Thanks. I don't have money- but can afford this loss if that is what it comes to. My bigger concern is that the mechanic comes to me for more money. I am 200 plus miles from him and in the middle of a coast to coast move.

I took a very big risk- game is not over but not looking like I will come out ok.

I wish the OP well.
But maybe someone can explain this to me-
The vehicle came for the junk yard.
2) The replacement motor came from the junkyard

What were the odds of positive results?

Still, if the OP really inspected the motor and there was no melted valve cover and now there's a melted valve cover, THAT sucks, and has nothing to do with a junkyard

The mechanic set a text back and said everything checked out the motor is ok.... maybe the mechanic is on BITOG, seems whenever I post a concern- good news from the mechanic soon follows.

You have far more patience and money to put into this project than I ever could

My hat is off to you sir, and I hope it all comes together 🤞
ML,

More patience maybe.... more money, not likely.

I likely have a character flaw. I am unable to quit anything. I am not able to cut my losses, I typically see every single thing through I got involved in. I am a doer in life, not a spectator. Add to that I am a very flawed, imperfect person....

Sometimes that flaw is helpful, sometimes it costs me a lot of time and money.

That's the big one I don't understand. If the valve cover was good when he bought it how did it melt?

We may be related. Well, that was me before......

D-60-
I would really like to know how that valve cover melted-you have any ideas.....his mechanic said the motor was in a fire I believe. That could explain it. And the OP didn't catch it.

Don't you think that's a bit of an overly simplistic view? I've dealt with plenty of junkyard parts (and even some cars) with plenty of useful life in them.

Eric,

Just a FYI- I ran a carfax on the junkyard donor vehicle prior to purchasing the engine. The Carfax showed dealer maintenance on the navigator right up until the SUV was in a accident- dealer maintained the entire live of the SUV. The interior was immaculate, as was the undercarriage. No reason to believe the donor SUV had any issues other than a major collision, that Carfax reported the fatal accident just miles from the junk yard. This Navigator also had the air suspension installed. Almost unheard of to find a 2003-2006 Navigator with the factory air suspension installed. The air suspension is a high failure item on the 2nd generation Navigator, and almost every Navigator owner converts the air suspension to coils, except persnickety owners with deep pockets.

Could the engine have been bad, surely- but not a single indicator suggested the engine had any issues. .

My gut is she is done:(.

I like the idea of pulling the donor engine in the field, and prepping the engine and replacing this likely blown engine. My issue is time and location. The blown engine is at a crazy run pull a part 160 miles away. They are closed weekends, they don't put the vehicle on welded rim stands, nothing.
It's like they don't want to sell it !!

Yeah....I think we're due an update! :)
Sorry, no meaningful updates. Received one unsolicited text from the mechanic stating the SUV will be completed soon a week or so ago. My grandkids are coming out in August, so if the job happens to get finished, I will put the SUV to use this August.
