A couple months ago I had been helping a 17 y/o family member and his dad look for his first car. He had come across a car he wanted that had a salvage title due to hail damage. His dad had said no, a salvage title car cannot get full coverage which is what he wanted for his teen. is that true? Thanks!

Depends on your state and/or province and who carries your insurance. Here in Saskatchewan a salvage title can get full coverage because once it's a write off and it's rebuilt you have to get 3 different inspections before it can go back on the road. Other provinces may or may not be different.
This is a question best posed to the insurance company and department of motor vehicles

depends. basically you could be fraudulent and wreck your car then get them to pay for the hail damage.

So it could be tricky. I'm the your car would have to be inspected and valued and other extra hoops to jump through if it was possible.

Unless it's a rare car, why not buy one with a clean title. Especially if it's one that has had frame damage.

Well it was just hail damage so no frame damage and they knocked alot of $$ off because of the title

I've seen a bunch of cars have salvage titles from Hail Damage. Also, I saw a car get totaled out because of a skunk problem with only a few thousand miles on it...nothing wrong with the car...it just stunk!

Just get liability. tell the kid if he wrecks, he walks.

Comp and Coll on a 16 year old would be frightful $.

Not to mention the human tragedy if he screws around.

Have one car that had over $9,000 in damage due to hail. Looked like someone took a hammer to the whole car, every panel. It was just cosmetic, it is very expensive to repair/replace and repaint every panel on a car.

Same storm totaled out almost every vehicle that was worth under $10k in the area.

Same storm also ruined every roof in the area. It also destroyed my shed and ruined some siding.

When I hear hail is coming, I work in a frenzy to push my POS project out of the garage, get everything out of the bays and get the cars in the garage.

We routinely purchase cars with salvage titles, if they are repaired professionally they can be better than new.
