Hi - last year I asked the board for some inputs on what OCI regimen & oil type to use (see below in blue).
Things have changed in 2009/10.

Can I get your inputs again please.

2009-10 situation:
Weekdays ~ 2 miles round trip or ~ 10 miles per work week.
2 out of 4 weekends ~ 50 miles.
2 out of 4 weekends ~ 200 miles.

2008 situation: 5w30 changed every 7k>
Drove 100 miles to work in another city on Sunday & 100 miles back on Friday nights.
During the week, the daily commute is 1 mile to work & 1 mile back to my hotel.

Other considerations:
- Temps are 30-40's in winter & 80-90's during the summer.
- Some loads to carry.
- Weekday commute is surface street with no stops either.
- Include freeways to burnoff during weekends.
- PP or other synth 5W-20/5w30 changed every 7k miles.

We had a simular situation with my daughter going back and forth to school in out small town. One mile each way. Shortened OCI's to 1 year or 2500 miles, whichever came first. Used syn. 5-30. Worked out just fine. You will be even better off with the weekend trips. No sweat at all.

With a 2 mile commute to work, depending on the job, you could bicycle to work, or if you have time, even walk to work.

So long as you get one long enough weekend trip to fully heat up the oil (I'm guessing 20+ miles), then I would remain with a typical oil change interval. Looks like your doing that quite well with approx 500 to 600 miles per month. Probably go synthetic and change oil once a year.

I'm in a similar situation - 20mi per workweek excluding weekends. Currently on the Taco, I'm doing my OCI's at 6 months with dino 5w30 + a good filter (Napa, Bosch, etc) for the silicon drainback valve.

On the Highlander, I'm doing 6mos or 5k Miles on PP 5w30.

Hey can I put in a plug for my favorite oil? VALVOLINE! Go Maxlife Synthetic if you can get it, otherwise you'll have to use Synpower, which is a very good oil also.

Thanks folks - seem like it's stick to the plan then:
low mileage during wk = burnoff on weekends.
