Due to a falling out with my rep I may have to switch brands of 15w40. I’ve called several places and got pricing and most is pretty close to the same. So not basing this off cost. But brands.

Current brand

Phillips66/Kendall DXA (still looking for a new rep)

Brand options are all synthetic blends:

Chevron 15w40
Chevron/texaco 15w40
Mobil 15w40
Rotella 15w40
Starfire 15w40
Arguard 15w40 (made in Pennsylvania)
Drydene 15w40 (apparently an old company)
Wolf’s head 15w40

I know most will say just pick one, but do any current 15w40’s stand out above the rest that would be readily available at local reps and not require special ordering and shipping?

I always liked the liquid titanium in the Kendall/phillips. Not sure why I do, but I can’t find any other oils that use it besides them.

Thanks in advance.

Whichever gives you the most information regarding their performance values, passes the required specification, & at a good price. I know you said it didn't matter but thinking from my perspective. I like P66 for fuel but never cared for their Titanium add pack. However, it is good oil no doubt. Let us know which one you use.

Can you elaborate on the titanium package? What didn’t you like? Just curious. Idk why I find myself liking it but it’s not a deal breaker either way.

Most companies I’ve talked to give limited information on performance values. So far they all meet specs.

How much were you paying a quart before?

Walmart prices are hard to beat. As said, look into the 5 gallon buckets.

OK

Wow, give High performance Lubricants a call, they sell 15W-40 in 5 Gallon containers!
Thanks but I want something local. Their name gets dropped here like a hot iron but I don’t wanna deal with calling ordering, shipping and waiting. I do forget at times to order oil and can’t be dealing with that last minute on a Thursday to have it at my door for Saturday morning.

Isn't the Rotella specifically for diesel vs gasoline engines? Does it matter? Use Rotella T6 only on my Universal M25 sailboat diesel engine (14W40). All others use gasoline, so I use Mobil 1 in various weights.

Some of the posts on here regarding t6 mention an issue with their oil foaming. I think the t4 is ok though.

I see it on sale all the time, I always wondered if mobile stays cheap cause of the ingredients and them sourcing for the cheapest options. Completely an assumption on my part though,
According to some, it's the same as the one CAT uses in their very expensive engines. I wouldn't worry a bit about what XOM uses to blend it. It's good oil.

Thanks for the info. I won’t lie I’ve been looking at that Drydene oil closely also. I’m going to call them tomorrow. It’s available locally but my engine still has an oil shearing issue so I’m curious if it would perform any better.

From what I've seen and read on the forum, I would pick either one of these:

Mobil Delvac 1 ESP 5W-40
Valvoline Premium Blue Full Syntheticethic 5W-40
Valvoline HD Full Synthetic 15W-40

I am puzzled as to why you include Drydene on your list- although its a very old company, they used to be in the business of gathering and refining used motor oil. The company has constantly been shrinking over the last 20+ years so that its now just a brand name. I personally would never consider Wolfs Head either- just a relabel.
