My parents left today for Albuquerque, NM to visit my dad's cousin. They just called to tell me their car was broken into while parked at a restaurant - back left window was busted, the trim was all pried out, and my mom's laptop was stolen. Idiots didn't go into the truck THANK GOD! It was in a busy upscale mall location in Santa Fe.

I swear to god, If I ever catch some worthless slug messing with me or my families stuff, I will end up in prison and they'll be as dead as disco. That stuff just does not fly with me and it infuriates me.

These guys must have been pros and scouted out the parking lot, saw my mom and dad go into the restaurant - easy pickins.

Unfortunately for the criminal turds, the computer is password protected and the hard drive is encrypted. Unfortunately for us, we never wrote the serial number down. I'm going to be surfing Craigalist tomorrow (the beacon of stolen items for sale), and might even call every pawn shop in Santa Fe by the end of next week.

I'm so mad I could kill someone right now. I pray for the day someone tries to break and enter my residence and tries to steal my stuff or harm my family. I will shoot them dead no questions asked.

Sorry to hear this. What a drag. I hope you can recover these items.

You really pray for the day someone breaks into your residence so you can shoot them? That's bizarre.

Things will only head downhill with so many people out of work and people looking for an easy buck.

Can't leave anything in a vehicle anymore where people can see it.

I as a rule always carry a weapon now. Many states have reciprocal agreements regarding carrying a concealed weapon.

Sorry to hear about what happened! Hope that they had full coverage on their vehicle and filed a police report. Anyone with a laptop needs to have it locked down with a password and hard drive encrypted. That was a big plus if it had to happen.

Well, maybe that was a bit too crass.

But I wouldn't have a second thought about ending someones life if they broke into my house as we have a castle law/make my day law with a lot of case law/history behind it in favor of people defending themselves with deadly force on their property.

I might think twice if someone broke into my car and I caught them because there isn't a criminal defense for killing someone for breaking into a car (unless they try to physically harm you).

I have no place fr criminals and the criminal mindset, especially burglars.

well at least they cant steal your data they will have to reinstall the os to sell it.

even if the data was encrypted, I hope your parents still informed the credit card companies, banks, etc just in case there was such info stored on the laptop.

Sorry to hear about the break-in of your parents car.

I place a thief right up there with a murderer, child molester and rapist! Same punishment!

We have the castle law here in MS and if anyone comes onto your property and you catch them messing with anything, you can shoot to kill.
But my female German Shepherd raises so much heck when anyone comes up into the drive, I know about it quick. Her barks are distinct and I sure know when someone comes up, day or night!

Woo Hoo! The cops down their got them. It was a group of kids. They just found out that my Dad's C-pap machine (for sleep apnea) was also stolen - it's VA/government property worth over $5,000 bucks, so it's going to be felony burglary. The cops said there will likely be criminal restitution for damages in this case, but insurance will pay for it before that gets done.

It's a good thing I'm not down there or I'd end up behind bars if I was anywhere near those slugs.

Wow! We must be long lost brothers! I agree on all points AND I have a female German Shepard!

Turns out the little [censored] broke into a bunch of vehicles, went joyriding, ended up in front of another business and started loitering and showing off their new found wears. The owner of the business became suspicious, and his son is a police officer, so he called his son! The parents of the kids are cooperating, and they'll likely be found guilt by tomorrow afternoon with court ordered restitution for the parents to pay the damages.

THAT IS KARMA my friends!

If my son engaged in felony burglary, I'd stick my foot so far up his rear end...

"Don't Steal, because the government hates competition."

BTW sorry to hear about your parents. I normally try to park where I can see my car.

20 years ago I caught two guys stealing my fire wood from the back of my lot and throwing it into a Mazda pickup. Alley way behind the lot. It was 10PM and when I saw them through the window they saw me and bugged out. Well I jumped into my 85 Tempo diesel that was parked in the garage and went looking for them. Two blocks away there they were acting all shifty looking with their lights off. As soon as they saw me the chase was on! My poor 65 horse diesel was red lined trying to catch those guys. Up one street and down another red lined all the way. Finally chased them out to the interstate and and the chase was over. I'm pretty sure I would have wrecked them if I could have caught them. Good thing I didn't catch up. You just don't steal a mans fire wood. It's like horse thieving.

No. Is that what you'd do?

I know someone whos minor child was timber pirating/trespassing during the 1930's. They got two years in jail for the kids' actions and only ate tuna casserole.

Lived a long life, but couldn't touch tuna ever again.

Some people knock the tiny village I live because it doesn't have all the big venues of the city that is 40miles away, but it is times like this I can be thankful we don't have to lock our doors or take the keys out of our vehicles that are parked outside...because everyone knows your name.
