They don't like to talk about it. But they should, it's healthy. But you are right, my grandfather never talked about WWII, ever. But that's probably different no?

That said, I didn't see anybody proclaiming a recent shoot here. Just somebody who recently got violated stating a belief in the right to defend themselves and loved ones and a willingness to exploit it. Bravo to them!

Keep it dry!

You should go to Vegas since you can predict the future.

Would you? I carry a gun, and I'm not afraid to use it...but I don't WANT to EVER use it for anything more menacing than a propane tank. Kind of how I don't like to talk about how my dog died...

I actually live in a world where people get shot and the fact remains that more than half of the "dirty harrys" on here will cower in fear if the time ever comes. It's not an insult. It's just a fact. It is why it is called "fight or flight" instead of just "fight".

No offense fellas. I just have a different perspective from being in many life or death situations due to my line of work and I have seen many "tough guys" go fetal when the [censored] hits the fan.

This is so true, nice to have a voice of reason. On a lighter note, the same is true many times of the so called tough guys that pick fights.

Busy lot just means it is easier for them to blend in or disappear into the crowd if they need to run. Malls are THE place around here for break ins. From amateurs (school kids) to pros. Easy pickings becuase they know the owner likely won't be back for a while. Sometimes they sit and watch for shoppers who load there trunk and then head back into the stores.
Point being, you can't leave anything in sight in the vehicle. And if you need to make multiple trips, load up, drive away, come back and park elsewhere to reduce the odds of getting the trunk popped.

You guys must be some bad mofo's to run to a message board full of oil nerds and talk tough about what you would do "if" you get the chance.

Oddly enough, I prevented my neighbor's vehicle from being stolen at 2AM by investigating some noise outside. Of course, I took my Winchester Defender with me. Pretty scary looking shotgun to most people. I drug 2 guys out of their car and alerted my neighbor.

I don't need to talk about "ifs." I grew up in a tough neighborhood. People get abused. I wouldn't purposely harm someone unless I had been forced to that level. I don't believe many others here would do much different either.

Actually if your son were involved you'd have to shoot and kill him or hope someone else does. Because you just said that's what burglars deserve. Do you still stand by what you said?

Of course not. But thanks for making a useless post. Feel better now?

Pointing out hypocrisy is useless? Why?

Why is it ok for you to shoot someone who breaks into your house, but you feel if someone close to you does the same, they shouldn't suffer the same fate? That's a morally valid question and relevant to this thread. Just because it puts you on the spot does not make it a useless post.

We call that situational ethics. I don't really abide by it much. If a friend, family member, etc. broke into someone's house and got killed for it, I don't see that I have a right to argue.

I personally dislike situational ethics or discussing them. You know, the question like: If you could only save your wife or your only child from a burning building, which would you choose?

tony,

Are you asking if Drew's son broke into Drew's house should he shoot his son or if Drew's son broke into someone else's house should the son be shot? The first scenario is asinine.

He said that he felt burglars should be shot and killed. He also said that if his son did it to someone else, he'd whop his son's ***. I asked, why wouldn't you shoot him instead of whop his behind since you feel burglars deserve to be executed? It's a question about ethics -- the stranger who breaks into your house and you shoot is someone else's son. Do you want your son treated the same if he breaks into another person's house? it sounded like he felt his son should get different treatment. That isn't justice is it?

Drew is responsible for correcting his son's mistakes so he can't really do that by burying him whereas someone else is responsible for protecting their family so they should shoot Drew's son. No hypocrisy here but lots of hypothetical.
