This is not how a pure market economy works; quite the opposite. A "free" market has no rules, only winners and losers.Wow so many different interpretations of what drives economics means some of you are completely wrong and don't know it. In a perfect free world Supply and Demand will always center itself like a ship rights itself in a storm.
My wife and I both had the vaccination and tried/still try to exercise as much caution as possible but we're not going to completely stop living life. For months we went to church where they had speakers outside for anyone that didn't want to come in and we sat in our car and listened to the service. After we were vaccinated we started going in the church again and still are but we're wearing our masks. Our church is small in number but the building is large enough that any family that wants can maintain 6 distance between themselves and others can do so. We don't eat out as often as we did before but we still occasionally go out to eat, again maintaining distance and wearing our masks. Thanks be to God that my mom (90 years old) didn't contract it from me when I had it. The day before I lost my sense of smell and tested positive mom rode in the car with me for about 50 miles neither of us wearing a mask. The problem is no one has any clue how bad it will be for them until they have it. While most people will be fine, over a half million so far weren’t. Too many people pretend they know how they’ll do because they’re “young and healthy” but the truth is they have no idea prior to having it. An abundance of caution for everyone is the correct choice.
I've never been homeless and I hope and pray I never am. My dad was born in June 1928 before the stock market crash of 1929 and mom was born in 1931 so I'm sure some of their early years were pretty tough. He and mom both and great work ethics and taught me and my brothers early on if you want anything in this life you're going to have to work for it and I taught my children the same way. Too bad it's not still like that! My mom is 90 years old and since dad passed away in 2010 lives alone and takes care of herself and her own affairs. She still does her own housekeeping, cooking, etc. without any outside help. I try to help her out by mowing her lawn and making repairs I'm able to do so seldom has to hire outside help for anything. One of my sons passed away in 2011 of a massive heart attack but the other is now 30 years old and has a great work ethic. He's been on his current job about 5-6 years I think and just got promoted to supervisor a couple months ago. Back in 1999 I tore off and re-roofed our house while I was off work one weekend and after I finished he picked the old shingles up off the ground and loaded them in the bed of my pickup for me. A few pieces were large enough we had to help him put them in the truck but he basically did it himself. When he finished the bed was a little above level full. We took them to the landfill and he helped me unload them. He was 8 years old.@FordMan59 I admire your work ethic. I have done all kinds of work myself; I have been down and out homeless and been lucky enough to get out. All the brains in the world get you nowhere unless you are lucky enought to have a good work ethic.
hmm. I did that & added a cheeseburger. regular fries & drink, $8.78.I paid $8.32 for a McDonald's filet a fish and small fries last week. **** near choked when when she rang it up.
So does that mean we should put you down for a donation or not?

I've known a few that have died from it too. One was a close family friend, an elderly lady with pre-existing heart conditions. I remember when it first started though lots of people were taking part in BLM riots (oh, I mean peaceful demonstrations). I wonder how many of those people were not working because they were worried about catching Covid? I also wonder how many of the ones that claim they weren't/still not working didn't bother to get the vaccine? The problem is no one has any clue how bad it will be for them until they have it. I know two healthy under 45 who are now dead. My business partner and his kids barely had a sniffle but his wife, who is 42 and personal trainer in perfect health, spent 3 weeks in the hospital and still has problems now 8 months later. No thank you, I’ll pass on rolling those dice.
As I said in an earlier post in years past I took jobs at $5-6 an hour less than my previous job just to be able to work when I could have drawn more sitting at home, not had to pay a babysitter or buy a couple tanks of gas per week. During those times it was bringing my wages down very near federal minimum wage and we never missed a meal. This goes back to what I said earlier about people living beyond their means.
Never go to Mickeys without the app. I got 2 F-O-F and a large unsweented ice tea for $5.65 with tax. F-O-F have been BOGO on the app for about a year now in the KC area.I paid $8.32 for a McDonald's filet a fish and small fries last week. **** near choked when when she rang it up.
That wouldn't have been beer money for most college students. I smoked and drank when I was single and beer/cigarettes were two of my major expenses which was a life decision rather than a need. I still drank/smoked when I got married but I had slowed down the drinking considerably. I didn't quit either one because I couldn't afford them just finally realized I was wasting money and wrecking my health in the process. When I was single I spent more on beer/liquor than I did on food. Lots of nights I'd come home from work and never eat supper but nearly every night from the time I got home from work (5:30-7:00 PM most nights) till around 11 PM when I'd go to bed I usually drank close to a 12 pack, sometimes more and about a case a day sometimes on the weekends. If I ran out of beer before bedtime I didn't drive to get more. I usually kept a fifth or half gallon of whiskey in the cabinet for emergency use. I hate to think what those two habits would be costing me today. When I quit smoking I was smoking 1.5-2 packs a day on average so smoking alone at the price of cigarettes now would be a few thousand dollars a year. When I was Younger in college my budget was a dollar a day, I survived and was able to pay as I went.
I believe you're looking for the word Schadenfreude. When the ****e hits the fan, all these 'free' freaks will be hit hard. It'll be a lovely sight.
Can't wait.
The ones stockpiling toilet paper didn't do too well. Stock market has set up new highs. S&P 500 returns to date is about 22% which easily beats the official inflation number of 5.4%. Nothing to worry about here...After going through the drive thru at Arby's and getting a $9.60 bill two weeks ago, I said no more eating out.
People are seeing something coming down the road. I was at a Dollar General on Monday night and something stood out. There were six of us in line and four of those people had two cases of water each, nothing else. The natives are starting to get restless but haven't gone into full panic mode yet. What I'm seeing is paper towels, toilet paper and water are the top sellers in most stores based on empty shelves.
It starts with those three and expands out to other items. If inflation takes off this month and continues for the next few months things could get real ugly with panic buying. The Preppers have been warning of this for the last few months. They're seeing higher prices and shrinkflation in the products they are stockpiling. Remember these people are buying all the time adding to their stashes. Some have stores that they sell products to their followers and they're warning of major price increases coming in the next few weeks or months from their suppliers. This one came out today, a 10 minute video from a guy in Canada.

Its hard now to feel sorry for those on street corners pan handling. There are jobs everywhere, freqently in walking distance of where they are begging. Most of them now are alkys or meth/heroin addicts.I often give money, food, etc to people that are trying to help themselves and need a little extra help. Years ago there was a guy standing at the exit of parking lot when I left with a sign "will work for food" I was going to pick myself up something at a fast food restaurant so while I was there picked up an extra large burger, maybe fries and drink I don't recall exactly what all and took it back to him. When he didn't want to accept the food I soon found out he was there for nothing other than a cash handout. I left the food with him. He may have thrown it away after I left but I'd done my part.
No covid discussion allowed in BITOG, its a mute point anyway, there is a vaccine for those who do not wish to die.Lots of people probably don't want to work because they're afraid of being exposed to Covid
I know you keep bringing this up directly or indirectly about "close enough to work there"The cost to work at some of those jobs is higher than what you earn, Door County has close to 20,000 open positions but they don’t pay enough to live close enough to work them.
