I just bought this car yesterday. I'm wondering whether I should use a high mileage oil or if just put in the normal synthetic 5w-30?

It depends on the condition of the engine and previous oils used.
A high mileage oil wouldn't hurt a thing, so you can use it if it helps you sleep easier at night.
FYI, my 98 Toyota Camry V6 with 225,000 miles still uses regular synthetic oil. I don't consider it high mileage just yet. 300k, maybe.

My 290+k miles LS400 still using regular dino/syn. I may use high mileage oil if it is on sale for less than regular oil.
I would shorten OCI with regular or high mileage oil for couple changes to clean the engine, then go back to normal OCI.
