Yeah, that and brick. you need to be facing the right way and be receiving through wood and roofing, which my photo is perfect for our house, just the right direction at 300 degrees or might have had to go outside as the front is brick.
The OP will have the same issue as you describe if he has Aluminum siding with an indoor antenna.
Its so easy now for an attic or external antenna because the websites I posted (plus many more) gives you the compass heading of which way to point the antenna. I prefer attic and out of the elements if possible which should be for most installations.
