Took my wife and son to the drive-in this past saturday to see the new Batman movie. Had a great time, got home late, so I went out to unload the car sunday morning. I found a nice, nickel sized dent in my passenger side rear door with a scratch in it and a scratch in front of it, down to the metal. Must have been the lady parked next to me at the drive in as I did notice she was sitting in her car during the movie with her door propped open the whole time. I guess its my fault for not checking the car over before leaving, but it really [censored] me off. I told my wife, I'm upset so much over the fact that it happened, stuff happens, but its the fact that she sat there for 3+ hours without telling me she hit my car with her door. Ok, done ranting

Between obesity, giant vehicles and self-centeredness, you just can't park near others...

True, but TRY not to park close to someone. Park far away from the door of whatever business you are visiting and you will come back to find someone parked next to you. It's hilarious. Except when they park too close and ding your ride. It's probably a subconscious social animal thing. "Herd mentality," maybe?

This is what honks me off. I will park WAAAY out away from anything, and when I return there will be vehicles parked right up against me. WITH EMPTY SPACES BETWEEN ME AND THE CARS PARKED CLOSER TO THE DOOR. WHAT!?!?!

Amen to that. Somehow I am always lucky enough to park next the the huge guy that just lets the door swing open until it nearly breaks the hinges. You can park a mile away and when you come out there are not any open spots around you.

Same parking issue happens to me. Had a work colleague back in to my M-B and crack the grille. I know it was him, as there was a silver streak on the rear bumper of his black M-B, from my paint he rubbed off my bumper, while he simultaneously hit the grille...no note or nothing, just a nice $250 needed for a new grille, and nice mark on the front bumper cover.

I like drive-ins for there cost and the ability to lean back and watch the movie from the comfort of my truck. But I only went twice. I had to stop going because of the people drinking beer and smoking cigarettes and being downright loud during the movie. There is nothing like enjoying second-hand smoke and listing to a drunkard during a movie that you paid for to watch. Then I had the most fun during the dash to leave the drive-in competing against the same drunkards.

If you're at a drive-in, I'm going to assume you were either in, on, or around your car the whole time. How could someone put such a dent in your car without you being aware of it when it happened?

Ya know not to be smart, but I was wondering the same thing?

Not yet. Of course I've only doing it for the last 10 or 12 years.

...and this is exactly why I buy my work/beaters from the junkyard. They usually do more damage to their own car than mine.

I had my car backed in and we were sitting in lawn chairs under the hatch. It could have happened while we were away from the car, I don't know. there was a point where we had our son over playing on their swing set and climbing on some boulders they have at the bottom of the movie screen. It would have been hard to hear during the movie too. Anyways, its done, not much I can do about it now.

Got you beat here, I park in the alley, the old man across the lane swings in beside my 75 Camaro to back into his stall across the lane. There is a huge dent that took the paint completely off in the shape (and height) of his bumper on my fender. I asked him to his face if he hit my car. He said he didn't.

This story aside, inconsiderate seems to be the new world order.

This just happened to me last week while parked at the library, it has affected me and my wife's decision to buy a new car. current one in good condition @13yrs old and it's hard to take, a new one doesn't feel worth the tremendous cost.

People don't respect other people's property these days.

I don't know how many times I've gotten back to my car and the next car is way over the line and so close to my car that there is no way any normal sized person could have gotten in/out without their door hitting.

I bought my daily driver that had zero dings and in six years it's gotten so many dings in it and I always park my car straight in the middle of my spots. Heck, I've BEEN INSIDE my car when others have opened their doors and hit my car. When confronting them with a "Hey!" it's almost always an ignorant "Oh I did?" look.
